Soft early afternoon light filtered through the windows of the little store, snow falling softly outside while Depeche Mode played through grainy speakers mounted on the counter.
Impulse control was not your friend, record after record finding its way into the ever growing stack in your arms. You shifted them to one side, leaning over a crate to grab the to-go cup of coffee you’d nearly forgotten. You leaned too far and the top few records went sliding, hitting the ground with a too loud thud. Grimacing, you mouthed an apology at the irritated high schooler working behind the register and bent to pick them up. Scuffed white sneakers appeared in your vision. Then denim clad legs bent at the knee, large hands decorated with silver rings handing you the coveted copy of The Queen is Dead you’d been drooling over.
“The Smiths, huh?”

He was pretty. Shaggy brown curls haloed a square jaw. Sooty lashes framed brown eyes softer than your favorite sweater and his smile was wide, infectious.
Alex I love this so goddamn much. It’s so nostalgic and evocative and I couldn’t put it down!! Your Eddie is pitch-perfect, sweet and romantic softer than he looks. And the reader!! I am in love with both of them, and you. You handled the age gap with care and sensitivity, too, which I know took a great deal of consideration.
