holiday knitting for the house elves /// h.g. & l.l.

  • When Hermione approached you just a few days leading up to the Christmas holiday, you knew she was up to no good
  • With her S.P.E.W. badge pinned on proudly she asked you for your help
  • I just think it would be nice, to have presents for the house elves!
  • She pleaded enthusiastically, telling you how she only wanted to knit a few items and leave them around the common rooms for the holidays
  • Reluctantly agreeing had seemed like a bright idea at the moment
  • But you were quick to regret your decision
  • Gathering some yarn and needles for kitting, you and Hermione sat in front of the roaring fire in the Gryffindor common room
  • You pulled out your wand, waving it and muttering a spell that made the needles work by themselves
  • No, no, no!” Hermione yelped, “No magic!
  • She huffed the counter spell, a clacking of needles hitting the floor
  • You cursed her in your head, picking up the sticks and getting to work by hand
  • Of course, there is nothing wrong with being a do-gooder
  • In fact it felt good doing something nice for the house elves
  • However, when you two had been sitting and knitting for three hours and had come to realize you’d only made a total of four socks, the process had felt more frustrating than anything
  • Hermione let out a huff, noticing the slow progress as well
  • If only we could use some magic, you thought to yourself
  • A sudden idea struck you, causing an excited gasp to leave your lips and standing immediately
  • “What is it?” Hermione beckoned desperately
  • “I know who can help!” you smiled
  • Taking her hand, you lead Hermione to the Ravenclaw common room and instantly found the person you were looking for
  • Luna Lovegood
  • Luna, would you care to help us knit some holiday gifts for the house elves?
  • Luna’s eyes sparkled excitedly
  • She ecstatically agreed that the house elves deserved a holiday surprise
  • And Hermione didn’t even care that it was Luna helping them, in fact she was over the moonhappy
  • So, the three of you made your way back to the Gryffindor common room
  • Balls of yarn still sprawled across the floor
  • Luna smiled sweetly as she picked up a periwinkle yarn and a set of needles
  • Hermione smiled in your direction, thanking you for your sharp idea
  • You blushed in response and picked up your hat where you had last started it
  • Both of you were in shock of how fast Luna could knit, and how beautiful it looked
  • She had finished nearly five items in just under an hour
  • With Hermione now relaxed and at ease, you could all enjoy each other company
  • Laughter rang throughout the common room until the late hours of the night
  • Knitting anything from hats, socks and even tiny sweaters
  • The fire had nearly died before you three called it a night, admiring your wonderful and hard work
  • You all hurried around the common room, hiding the clothes in various spots for them to find
  • Each article of clothing had a small note attached, thanking them for all they did for the students of Hogwarts
  • And with now so much left over, you guys merrily walked around the dark corridors hiding them in other spots throughout the castle
  • It was some hour past midnight when the work for the day had been completed, exhaustion wavering over everyone’s head
  • So, Hermione decided that you all should head back to the common room and call it a night
  • Luna, Hermione and you all snuggled up in the large couched of the common room, drifting off peacefully to the sound of the last few crackles of the fireplace
  • Only good thoughts danced in your dreams
  • I guess being a do-gooder does come with its rewards” you thought softly to yourself
