#hiatus hoedown rewatch
I’m thinking about how Zym (and Thunder) are associated with storms this season, but so is Callum - and this metaphoric association is in s1 even then. Ezran is scared by the storm (much like Callum’s temper) in 1x01. Rayla is illuminated by it, and then has to deal with Callum routinely seeing through her in their first encounter and in 1x06. And of course, Callum went into the storm in 2x04 in order to Sky - storm - magic after releasing it from his primal stone. We return to this again in 2x08 with his dream. Perhaps Viren will feel a cold dread again someday, but because of the boy wielding a storm, instead of a dragon?

Viren earlier on in 2x06 says something similar to Harrow’s more in-depth letter (that yes, still makes me cry every time) - the lie of history being about epic battles, when in reality it is about something much deeper and more emotional. But it is interesting Harrow phrases it differently: True strength is about vulnerability, forgiveness, and love.Notsacrifice,as Viren phrases it - because the sacrifices that happened weren’t necessary. Also speaks to parallels between Runaan and Viren - “If all goes well, we can accomplish our goals without sacrifice” “We must be willing to sacrifice, even the things we love!” - vs TDP’s thematic Judaism of encouraging values of survival, endurance, and reform > martyrdom.

As much as I love the kiss, I actually think my favourite moment between them is the hug here at the beginning, followed by the forehead touch at the end

god even the way the magma titan slowly crumbles and collapses in on itself, just like avizandum did with the stones, as the chest based spear injury (inflicted by a royal family member) just grows worse and worse
Amaya’s little smile before she and Sarai wordlessly pull off their move is sweet. I love that we get to just see how Amaya got her scar (even though we probably didn’t think about it too much, just accepting it from a design standpoint) and that she’s a badass who gets right back up again. Even the animation on the cut being more red to show it’s fresh is such a nice touch

Even before reading the letter, Callum had already reached this conclusion: “Then it’s a cycle. You hurt me, someone will get revenge against the elves. It won’t end.” Also love how we see a glimpse of what’s clearly supposed to be Rayla’s POV with her troupe. She came prepared to perpetuate that cycle by killing the king and the prince, and instead helped his son end it :’)

20 seconds in and I am Crying. Little Callum always being an artist, drawing Harrow even if he’s still a little tentative around him, the way Harrow pays attention to and encourages his likes/talents. How Callum excitedly and openly talks to Sarai, so comfortable with his mom, and his big smile when he holds his sketchbook, Harrow’s warm relieved look because that’s his boy. I am. This ep is not going to be easy to get through, is it?

also will be wrapping up 2x06 & continuing on with my rewatch (probs one ep a day) until i get through the rest of the show, so… rewatch for another two weeks, just under?
