I am loving the Japanese title for animation shorts series for Legends Arceus, Hisuian Snow. In Japanese it’s called 雪ほどきし二藍 (yuki-hodo-kishi-futa-ai) . The special part of this title is the word 二藍futaai, it’s range of shade of blue-ish purple, said to be achieved by dyeing something red with safflower, then layer it with blue.
(it’s a range of purple, not just specific shade. )
The Japanese title can be roughly translate into “the purple revealed from snow (melting)” . In fact we can see these 2 shades of purple are used on the poster and also on the official website for this animation series.
Since the poster shows a shiny hisuian zorua, which has blue fur, and the character is seen holding a mask of usual red colour of a hisuian zorua, the word futaai perfectly describes that their story will overlap. Such a good title!! In fact in history, this shade of purple was popular during Heian period, and it was said that young people would dye their clothes into a redder shade of this purple, while older people would use a bluer shade. Since both shade is shown in the poster, I wonder if there will be time progress in the story.
The Pokemon: Hisuian Snow web series will follow Alec, a young man who is studying to become a doctor, and who is traveling to the Hisui region to look for medicinal herbs. The show will feature additional new characters and Hisui Pokemon, including Hisuian Zorua.
The first episode of Pokemon: Hisuian Snow will premiere on the Pokemon YouTube Channel and Pokemon TV on May 18, 2022.
