World Visit’s here! I’m working on preparing the next Cathedral Chats and the promised Growers’ Conference for Greening Coerthas as planned (hopefully both in May, maybe late), and I look forward to minglin’ with all you Crystal folk.
I do have a depressing confession to make, though.
For quite some time now – maybe as early as 4.1, though maybe even with portents in late Heavensward – I’ve not been feeling great about the direction FFXIV is turning, while at the same time I was struggling to sustain RP though 2018. I was expecting that the Starlight Feast in Ala Mhigo would be my last event and that I’d wind down Greening Coerthas after that. However, the announcement of Ishgard reconstruction and farming at November FanFest re-energized me, and I was excited for Shadowbringers.
Since then, all the news has been bad, and now the trends look even worse than I had been fearing before. Having taken the past few months to brood and reflect, I’m pretty sure now that FFXIV is becoming – perhaps has already become – a game that isn’t enjoyable for me. Aesthetics, story, lore, progression have all drifted away from what attracted me to the game back in 2.5. Doesn’t mean I think they’re now bad – I know my preferences will put me in a teeny minority of the players for any game – but they’re not for me, to the point that the little niche my tiny minority enjoyed doesn’t really exist anymore.
I’m so heartbroken. I loved this game. I’m grieving the loss heavily.
I’m not quite quitting, though. I still plan to get and play the beginning of Shadowbringers – solely for Ishgard reconstruction and farming, hah – and then probably at the end of 2019 evaluate if I should continue. So, like I mentioned: Cathedral Chats and the Growers’ Conference will still happen (though I may reduce the number of planned Chats to give myself less stress and workload), and my characters will still be around to RP with. And I’d love to meet ‘n’ chat with all of you, including new people from Crystal! Every time I take a character out for a spin it makes me really happy. But I’m not sure I can in good conscience commit to long-term plot arcs anymore, nor is it really practicable for me to be deep in event-running when a lot of days I can’t even log in without dread and disappointment.
My heart is heavy, and I’ll be grieving for a long time. But, having gotten a head start on that grieving process, I can also look back at some of the memories with joy and pride. (Such pride! I think I’ve done some of my life’s best writing so far for Rosaire.) What a wonderful time it’s been. I only wish it could be longer – and perhaps it could still be, if the course of the game changes someday in the future and the things that once drew me in come back.
But for now I plan to pull back and put more energy into work, art, and other RP. You can still reach me by Tumblr and by Discord (send me a Tumblr message if you’d like to be Discord friends!) to arrange RP or just say hello! I also expect to continue maintaining my lore compilations at least through the end of this year, and I plan to keep them up forever, so don’t worry about those disappearing.
Thank you for being great RP partners, friends, and neighbors. Even if it ends up shorter than I could wish, our time together’s been an incredible, splendid gift.

2. No monster tonight. My schedule this week is heinous, and my home computer is being uncooperative. So I’m not posting a monster today. Posts resume tomorrow, with the D&D 5e being posted Tuesday/Friday; the World Tour monsters posted Wednesday/Saturday; and the commissions posted Thursday/Sunday.

Hello, friends. Sorry about the recent lack in activity! This particular Word Smash took more collaboration – and therefore more time – than usual, but totally worth it in the end. The feedback really illustrates a point about starting stories with exposition, specifically backstory, and I’ll post it officially momentarily!
But the major reason for the silence here is because, two months ago, an opportunity opened up for us to pick up and move – across the frickin’ country. Since this is an opportunity that we weren’t sure we’d ever get again, we totally jumped right on it and started getting our lives set to go.
So, we’ve been hustlin’ and sweatin’ to make everything ready for blastoff by this upcoming Monday. Everything’s on track so far except we’re still waiting for our credit card to arrive because funny money is part of adulthood and we’re so freaken exciteddddd. We’re packing everything we own into our tiny, itty bitty car and heading out for a four-day high fantasy-style journey east.
Well okay, not very “high fantasy”. Maybe just “fantasy”.
Anyway, this is the biggest leap we’ve made in a good six years, and we just want to say we appreciate all the KSWers hanging in there and waiting! You all rock.
Also, this is just a reminder that the ask box has technically been closed to new questions since March. Please understand that it’s tough for us to make the time to reply to those who don’t take the time to read the Ask Guidelines. If we do decide to open up to questions again in the future, you can resubmit to us then. But for now, we’re definitely strained for time.

I’m even more busy than last year. This is a fun industry, but the hustle is real. I won’t have time to moderate for Inktober this year as much as I love seeing you all participate each time! Instead, I want to make an alternative suggestion:
At the end of the month, make a sketchbook or zine out of your inktobers–basically compile a pdf. I’m sure you’ve seen them by now. People sell them at cons or post them for free online. My favorite method is through gumroad.
As you can see, many people offer to share their downloads on an optional donation basis. You don’t HAVE to sell them to share the file.
Other alternatives are blog posts or youtube flip-throughs or downloads through google drive/dropbox.
However you compile your inktobers, feel free to send a link to the completed set at the end of the month, and I will share them in November, so our thousands of followers can have access to your completed body of work. Mind you, you can submit them any time in November at all.

We’ve been providing prompts for 3 years, each year pushing us closer and closer to a more cohesive collection, with last year’s themes revolving around worldbuilding, which many of you managed to pull off with a real flourish. This year I want you to come up with your own prompts. Something that fills you with enough passion to drive you to finish your list. It could be 31 witches, 31 wild plants you’ve found on your hikes, 31 illustrations for an Edgar Allen Poe poem, 31 beautiful women, 31 drawings of your own OC’s or yes, even fanart.

WHY INK? ISN’T THIS AN ANIMATION BLOG?!
Every year I get this question. The answer is because of me. I like it. I subscribe to the Ms. Frizzle approach: Take chances, make mistakes, and get messy. Ink is aggravating but it’s fun like that, and I think the push from the community and the size of the challenge both make for really impressive personal growth. And it has a tactile look that fits October so well. So no, we don’t include digital inking for this blog’s contest, although if you want to do it for yourself, you absolutely 100% should. If you want to skip this and do 31 acrylic bookmark designs for your online store, you should definitely go for that instead. There should be no guilt for not participating. You are valuable as you are, and knowing how to say no to tempting challenges to protect yourself from unneeded stress and time strain (or because another opportunity would serve you better) is also an important life skill. Peer pressure is real in the art community and I’m proud of you wherever you make your stand.
…On the other hand, digital art is also great and I’d like to host a challenge for that as well. The problem is the holidays have a way of wiping this completely from my mind. Let’s put a pin in that and maybe some time around February, when it’s wintery and bleak, we can have a shorter challenge to brighten our spirits.

We have a considerable following here and I’ve wanted to make a discord for some time to encourage more interaction and sharing of ideas and resources between all of us. I think it could potentially be a lot more helpful than just a blog, but I wouldn’t be able to run it as I am now. We would need to recruit a couple mods for it. If that’s something you feel qualified to do, please msg me, and I’ll get back to you in a week or two (yes, I’m posting this before I go on vacation :3).

I know I haven’t been super active on this blog where writing and star wars generally are concerned. Most of the offical content we’ve been getting lately has been a disappointment, and it’s kind of sapped my willingness to engage with the franchise and fandom. That said, I’m gonna take the month of May and early June off from blog engagement to just see if star wars and I can still get along, and hopefully get inspired to write and publish again. This doesn’t mean I’ll be absent from tumblr; I’ll still check this blog regularly in case anyone needs to reach me <3 I’ll also try to get back to the asks/messages in my inbox rn and maybe queue a post or two.

Also, completely separately: Someone else submitted today and the confession is negative toward feedism. I get the feeling you were not trying to make it that way or I wouldn’t be bothering here.
