So I’m finally watching the Injustice animated movie they made and holy shit
this might actually be top 10 worst adaptations of source material DC have ever done
which in a universe where bvs and both justice league live action movies exist is a fucking achievement
how did you take source material that is fundamentally (and not even slightly subtly) about how easily people and societies can backslide into fascism if they tollerate fascist thought
and make a movie that says supporting fascism is cool as long as you don’t personally kill children
they straight up said the problem with a fascist police state is that it might harm white children. the moral core of this movie is basically the fucking 14 words!
Batman’s “character arc” for want a better term is about him learning the importance of second chances. Fucking Batman. They think Batmandoesn’t believe in second chances. In a story where the initial rift between bruce and clark is about bruce’s absolute commitment to believing in a better world meaning that he won’t allow the joker to be killed, they gave batman a character arc… about learning the importance of second chances
(Also the ‘the more overtly harley is sexualised the more intensely infantalised she gets’ problem DC has really fucking peaked with this movie. I literally thought she was being voiced by an actual child when she first spoke, it’s so creepy)
a lot of it is DC’s fault, because the idea of an injustic movie that’s a hour long but needs to try and adapt the entire event and not just the events of the game and ends on superman’s defeat was literally never going to work, no one could make that work, but even with that impossible standard to measure against, this is impressively bad
[also this is a sign if you needed one to give the injustice comics a try - they’re video game tie-ins with an inherently stupid premise and yet somehow manage to be some of the best stuff DC has put out in the past decade]
