One of the artist of the spanish avant-garde movements of the last century, and also one of the founders of “Las Sin Sombrero” a rebellious group of women who were artists and thinkers. They dared the dictatorship of José Antonio Primo de Rivera, and fought to conquer a place for women in the artistic spheres.
She studied Fine Arts and worked as a writer and illustrating the covers of intellectuals magazines. Her first works were part of the magic realism movements. She earned a scolarship to study in Paris were she started her surreal period, she came back to Spain during the II Republic, but she was condemned to the exile once Franco’s dictatorship begun.
In 1990, finally she was recognised by her country when she was awarded with the Gold medal of the states of Madrid and Galicia.

She started painting trying to help her family financially, because his father (a taylor) was in a total bankrupt. She was heavily influenced by Caravaggio and was one of the firsts women to be registered in the artist’s guild.
Despite this, most of her work was attributed to male painters until the ninetenth century, when her work was finally acknowledged as her own.
