Imagine My Surprise

I really thought that we wouldn’t start seeing backlash against Inquisitor Reva, the Third Sister, and her actress, Moses Ingram, until closer to the end of the show.

I’m a fool.

It was barely 24 hours. TWENTY FOUR HOURS!

I’ve seen complaints about diversity hires! (This is a fandom that stans characters who are robots.) I’ve seen complaints about her acting. I’ve seen complaints about that she’s too ruthless and impulsive. She serves the freaking SITH! I’ve heard complaints that she seems a Mary Sue. I’ve seen complaints that her parkour-like moves – which a tenth grader could tell you symbolizes that she’s using her rage and desire to channel the force – are stupid or clumsy.

Fandom may not like black female characters, but they’ll tolerate them as long as they are in minor roles that can be pushed aside. A black woman playing a primary antagonist let alone a villain?

To them, it’s unthinkable. They’ll pass judgment based on an incomplete story.

Fandom is nothing if not depressingly dependable.
