Eastern eyed click beetle my co worker almost had a heart attack upon discovering. Feeds on nectar, pollen, flowers, and sometimes soft-bodied insects like aphids. Do not harm people.  A spine on the prosternum can be snapped into a corresponding notch on the mesosternum, producing a violent “click” that can bounce the beetle into the air. #clickbeetle #entomology #insects #bugs #beetles #elaters #snappingbeetles #springbeetles #skipjacks

Spirobolid Millipede. Occupy moist, wooded habitats. Emerge in spring to mate and lay eggs and remain active until fall. Females seal a single egg in a cup made from regurgitated food. Large Flathead Pine Heartwood Borer. Adults sun themselves on standing pines during late spring and summer and will also land on sidewalks, walls, and brightly clothed people. Breed in dead or dying pines and pine stumps. Grass Spider. Ground-dwelling. Females construct sheetlike webs on low plant growth and stone fences. Six-spotted Tiger Beetle. Hunts small insects and spiders on along woodland paths and in open areas nearby. Unlike other North American tiger beetles, these alight on vegetation. Bat-eared foxes use their enormous ears to hunt for prey which, unlike most foxes, consists mainly of invertebrates. Their hearing is so sensitive, they can even discern insects hidden underground.
