tangentially related to my last post but even for people who are growing older but aren’t anywhere close to elderly it can be such an awful experience for people (read: mostly women) for some reasons that are entirely social and unrelated to the physical experience of aging and it makes me so sad. this woman who was maybe in her fifties did a dropin to my pottery class a few weeks ago, she had grey hair and let me tell you she was absolutely BEAUTIFUL so i complimented her hair and she got really choked up and was telling me how since she started going grey, she’s found that she’s been treated as completely invisible when she goes out and how hard that is. i know so many women, including my own mom, who’ve talked about the exact same thing. it’s so evil i hate it so much. aging is a gift and yet it’s so socially acceptable to ignore or shy away from anyone showing any signs of it at all especially women. rage rage rage
