There are good days and there are bad days. Jamie knows that much.
Even if Dani doesn’t always share with her which day is which, she can tell anyway. She can tell when the darkness isn’t just the night, when Dani’s features shadow and she looks older than she ought to – though no less beautiful, just… older, burdened far more than she ever should be. Jamie can tell, so she does what she can to help, strives to banish the intruders in their life, to lift the weight, to protect Dani as much as the world will allow.
Dani kisses her, whispers that there’s room for both of them. And so, they sit together, Jamie tracking Dani’s heartbeat at her wrist, their hands clasped together. She squeezes once, twice, presses a kiss to Dani’s pulse at her neck, too.
You are here, she means to say. You are here, and you are loved.

Jamie thinks about what it means to be whole. Ponders life before tonight, content with the company of plants and endless stretches of time. Wonders how such a life can be filled, almost imperceptibly, like the moon moving through its phases. Slow, but constant. And she knows she should be listening to Dani, who waxes poetic about the crescent moon in the sky tonight, but Dani is a galaxy of her own, filled with the things that make Jamie’s world a little less dark, and she hopes one day, she too can be as radiant and full as the moon.
