Designer Jin Chen’s light-filled apartment in Taipei combines the tenets of wabi-sabi: aesthetic minimalism and imperfection. In addition to Chen’s newly launched ECRU Studios the designer is the owner of Delicate Antique, restaurant Xiang Se, and private member’s bar Staff Only

In the living room natural, raw textures in the form of original concrete walls, an antique stone bust, a marble sculpture, a mid-century table and an antique wooden chair from Denmark combine with plush soft furnishings.

Above the sofa is an abstract painting by an unknown Dutch artist; an unusually shaped chair from an antique dealer in Belgium sits before a brocaded 18th-century French screen. The slab of carved stone was purchased from a dealer in Ghent.
