This is a topic this girl has wanted to write about here for awhile but had been distracted or temporarily forgotten until now.

First off, what is this girl talking about.

Well simply the use by some submissives and slaves to use 3rd person when talking of themselves instead of the use of 1st person personal identification like “I” and “Me” and the use of lower case lettering for slave names and personal identification when using 3rd person or 1st person.

Contrary to popular belief these forms of slave speech is not Gorean in origin. Gor if your not familiar is a fantasy book series from the author John Norman that has a rich slave and D/s culture that has spread to online and real life use as a form of D/s roleplay. Yes Gorean online culture popularized these things, but the origins are much much older. Like almost every D/s part of the Gor novels you will find the origins come from D/s and slave culture in history. The different forms of kneeling, the slave speech etc all come from D/s and slave history around the world. The Gor novels and popularity online just consolidated it into one place. As for the slave speech, the Gor novels actually had slaves use both 3rd and 1st person. So it was not a Gorean hard and fast rule.

So where did these things come from and why use them now?

Theuse of capitol and lower case is often cited as an invention of Greek scribes beginning around the 3rd century AD. Though this girl has heard of it used in Sumerian text, but has found no proof of this. The Greek scribes began using Capitol for names of free people, and lower case for names of owned people. This made for an easy way to tell them apart at a glance. There is some interesting information on how this is actually still a legal trick used today with the use of all capitol letters for people’s names.

Look at your Bills, check out your Drivers License, your Social Security Card, Utility Bills, anything with your name on it.

What do you see?

Any form that is used for Business purposes will have YOUR NAME in Capital Letters.

I notice but why is it printed like that?

Anytime you are involved in Business Transactions, you will always see YOUR NAME in CAPITAL LETTERS. Only in this form are you able to deal with either Banks or the Government. Whenever Your Name is spelled with a combination of capital and lower case letters it refers directly to you as a Natural Person.

This girl won’t get into all the stuff on the legal all cap names, but just know the use of capitol and lower case is a very important thing to people and can actually be used without your knowledge or consent.

So when it comes to D/s what does a slave using lower case signify? That they are owned, or property, or it is an act of taking a submissive role. The lower casing of a name, or using “i” instead of “I” is a way for a slave to show their submissive role. This is something you see online more than in real life, due to you don’t often see people write in real life about themselves. Online this can become a very important tool for a sub or slave to show their submission, to express their subbie nature, or even identify themselves. It also helps put the sub in a special mental state where they feel more connected to their submissive nature. Lets face it, most subs are not living a 24/7 D/s life. So little tricks like no capitols can help bring that submissive nature to the surface after a hard day of being the boss at the office. Happens more than you would think.

Now the use of 3rd person over 1st person is one most often cited as a Gorean invention, but once again it was just borrowed and popularized by the Gor novels and online Gor. The use of 3rd person by slaves is well documented as used by the African slaves in the USA. While not all of them used it, there was a majority who did. This was in part to create a division between free people and owned people, just like with the use of capitol letters. It was also used to indoctrinate the slaves into being property, to give them no ability to think of themselves as self possessed. Think 1984 thoughtcrime style. This was actually not a new thing for slaves though. It has been done through out history with many different cultures that had slavery. In Roman and Greek culture, it was actually done voluntarily by some slaves as a form of respect for their owners and to show the slaves as owned property. Of course Roman and Greek slavery was quite different then African slaves of the USA. Roman and Greek slaves often felt pride in their slavery and were often treated quite well.

So again the use of 3rd person modernly has come from the past, for subs and slaves to be able to differentiate themselves from free nonsubmissive people. It again is a way for a subbie to get into their mental state of submission. Like the ancient Roman and Greek slaves, it can be a sign of submission and respect to their owner or Dom/me. Again it makes a clearer distinction for online D/s, no trouble spotting the subbies when they speak in 3rd person. Like the use of lower case, this is a way for submissives and slaves to “get into character” after a day of not being in D/s life.

Some Dom/mes ask or command their subs to use these methods, but often this girl has found it is the subs themselves that take on these forms. This girl was not commanded to do it, and she knows many others who were not. As this girl said it is a way to mentally get into that submissive mind, to bring it to the surface. While this girl lives pretty much a 24/7 D/s life, she does enjoy the use of these methods. This girl also is involved in a D/s relationship that is primarily online, what might be another part of why, when you can’t express your self in subtle body language then altering your text to a submissive tone helps convey your submissive nature.

While this does not cover the whole scope of this topic it is a dive into the subject that hopefully will help educate and get people thinking. Maybe it will also help get the word out that this is much older than Gor. Since it is often sterotyped as a Gorean thing. This girl has never been involved in Gorean D/s roleplay and has no interest in it. This girl has only briefly read some of the books, and honestly they are poorly written. While there are some interesting ideas in it, a lot is written like a teenage boy’s fantasy for slavery. Very immature and unrealistic from a woman’s point of view. This girl is not discounting the entire work, as girl said she has not read it all. This girl is pointing out though well accepted truths about the writing style of the books. Many fans of Gor will admit these faults, but they have overcome them for love of the deeper story. This girl never was able to get past the poor writing, but then this girl is very well read and has expectations that many might not.

Well hope people enjoy this.
