For the all mockery that Keanu Reeves takes for his particular style of acting, he does know how to make his type of very well. You know the type, broody, quiet and apparently ready to pop when pushed too far. The Matrix was pretty much like and now we have a movie where there is no pretense on what type of character he is playing.
Listen, the set up of the story is ridiculously bad and extremely cliched — “…that my dead wife gave me”. I kind of dig that because you get the sense that the movie embraces this formality and doesn’t spend too much on it so that they can get right into the the reason we are there to see the movie – the action.
And man does there seem to be action. A WHOLE whack load of it.
I love these types of movies. They don’t get a lot of love but they are so much fun to watch (Get Carter,The EqualizerandPayback are a few of the perfect examples of what I mean).
I am ALL the damn way in with this one. (Even if the first part of the trailer is pretty hokey).
