so many tropes suck ass but one of the worst ones is when character a and b’s friend group is trying to get them together. my reasoning for this is as follows:
1) their friends are always like “its soo obvious you guys like each other” EVEN AFTER one or both of them state - sometimes even insisting - that they dont like the other character
2) a lot of the time - ok most of the time - they will force character a and b into romantic scenarios to get them to confess. are you even considering your friends’ feelings at this point???? do you care???? why the fuck would you put them in that kind of situation without knowing if theyre comfortable with it???? this goes double if 1) has already occurred
3) after they get together, 99% of the time their friends will say smth like “told you so” and character a and b will be like “yeah ig you were right” like???? no???? fuck off????
their friends, a) assumed they liked each other, b) felt that bc of this assumed mutual attraction that they hadto be together, despite the fact that character a and b were happy as friends, and c) literally tried to force them to be together. i, as character a, would be pissed as hell at my friends whether or not i ended up with character b bc they didnt fucking respect me enough to let me do things in my own time/believe me when i said i wasnt interested in character b.
it makes me so upset that oftentimes the assumptions that their friends made are brushed off as ok at the end bc they were right. like nobodys unlearning harmful behaviors huh respect your friends and their feelings
