Now THAT’s how you deal with poachers! Indonesian navy blows up illegal foreign fishing vessels in spectacular fashion

Two foreign fishing boats suspected of conducting illegal fishing activities are blown up by the Indonesian navy in Ambon bay, Indonesia, 21 December 2014.

The destruction of the Papua New Guinea-flagged vessels follows a government ruling to sink almost all foreign ships which carry out illegal fishing activities in the waters of Indonesia.

C'est sur une image de Ken le Survivant que s'ouvre le numéro 2 de la revue Kaboom. J'y apprends que Jacques Sadoul, premier éditeur de Ken pour les éditions J'ai Lu en parle comme d’ “ une manifestation d'art but”. Quand on voit les titres qui ont suivis dont le magistral Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure on ne peut s'empêcher d'admirer le don de prescience et le culot qui lui ont fait publier des œuvres difficilement abordables par un public néophyte et même amateur à une époque où le manga était en plus majoritairement perçu comme une apologie de la violence gratuite qui contribuerait à l'effondrement intellectuel de ses lecteurs (à savoir le gamin de dix ans abruti devant le club Dorothée tous les mercredis matins).

Mais le véritable bijou est le dossier central consacré à la mythique revue Garo qui nous repaît d'articles sur des gens qu'on a peu l'habitude de voir autrement que chez Stéphane Blanquet,le Dernier Cri,Imho,Cornélius ou le Lézard Noir : Takashi Nemoto, Suehiro Maruo, Seiichi Hayashi et surtout du maître Sanpei Shirato, première vague de la revue. Rejetant le manga de divertissement, la compromission narrative et l'asservissement à un système éditorial étouffant la revue d'avant garde Garo a permis dans les années 60 et 70 de voir s'épanouir toutes ces belles fleurs à sucs venimeux.

Voici un extrait de l'interview de Yoshihiro Tatsumi à propos du gekiga: “ Aujourd'hui presque tous les mangas relèvent du gekiga, le genre s’‘est fait totalement absorber. Mais lorsque nous avons inventé ce terme, seuls les koma mangas, en quatre ou huit cases, et quelques rares histoires plus longues qui ne dépassaient pas les deux pages, existaient. C'est Osamu Tezuka, le premier, qui a dessiné un récit long au milieu des années 1940. Cette modernisation formelle nous a totalement influencés dans la création du gekiga. Tezuka était presque un dieu pour moi, d'autant plus à l'époque. L'élément de base, entre son story manga et notre gekiga qui s'ensuivit, est donc le même : c'est le format long. Là où le gekiga différait c'était dans son refus de tenir compte du rire, de la chute et du public enfantin. Le gekiga voulait s'adresser aux gens de notre génération et exigeait de l'espace pour développer de véritables descriptions psychologiques sur un certain nombre de cases. En conséquence nos conclusions étaient pessimistes, nos personnages ordinaires et sombres. On s'adressait aux adultes, on évinçait le rire et l'héroïsme, pour nous rapprocher de l'humain, le plus objectivement possible, à travers des histoires longues. (…) Étymologiquement ” geki “ signifie ” théâtre “. Donc le gekiga est théâtral.”

Pour finir, je ne peux pas passer sous silence outre ce dossier, la présence au sommaire de sommités comme Naoki Urasawa, Bong Joon-Ho ou encore Takehiko Inoue.
