Jin’s Sing-and-Talk Livestream Side:Circle
Second part of the livestream from Jin’s official YouTube channel. Original video here. Part 1 here. Done on commission!
The second livestream starts off just like the first one, with Jin warming up his voice and greeting everyone. He then apologizes for mistyping the title of “side:Alone” and making it “side:Clone”, although, in his words, “side:Clone” would also be cool. While tuning his guitar, he asks the listeners to tell him in the comments if they sense anything weird with his playing or voice, but whether or not he’d be able to fix it was a different story. Nevertheless, he was going to do his best.
Just like in the previous livestream, he explains once again the meaning behind the theme and adds that the playlist for this one was full of difficult songs. Also just like in the previous livestream, he asks everyone to stay until the end and tweet their impressions about it.
The first song is “Children Record”. After playing it, Jin says he picked out lots of songs he likes for the livestream together with his friend, Inpine (whom he does livestreams with on a regular basis nowadays), so he hoped everyone would enjoy it. He then comments about how hard “Children Record” is both to play and to sing. He also explains that whenever people hear the sound of ice cackling during the livestream, it’s because he’s drinking water. He saw that a lot of the listeners had asked about it in the comments in the previous livestream, so he’d considered drinking something else in this one, but ended up not doing so.
Next is “Guru”. He starts playing after joking about how boring he was as an MC and coughs a little after the first notes. After finishing, he says that the song is so hard he thought he’d bite his tongue. It is then he realizes that perhaps he should have commented something about “Children Record”, as he had left comments for all songs in the previous livestream, talking about their themes and such. And to everyone’s surprise, he has no idea what the theme of “Children Record” is. Now that one was a shocker.
To elaborate, he says that although he made the song with the intention of “lots of people gathering up”, he can’t actually feel that from the song. Instead, there’s a sense of individuality to it. He casually throws in that the modulation is a pain in the ass and wonders aloud why he made it like that. He loves the song, though. As for “Guru”, he made it without thinking about anything. He had nothing in mind, yet his thoughts naturally spilled into the song all on their own. He thinks the way the words are pieced together in “Guru” is pretty good.
Jin notices he hasn’t been putting the song titles on the screen and hurries to put up “Children Record” and “Guru” and apologizes before going on about how lonely play-and-talk livestreams are. The ones he does with Inpine are a lot of fun, but play-and-talk ones where he’s by himself feel very lonesome.
The next song, surprisingly enough, is “Kagerou Days”. He acknowledges that a lot of people would certainly know this one. When he uploaded this song, he was going through a much too stressful time. It was immediately after releasing it that a hole opened in one of his lungs. Looking back, he was quite lonely, but he did have fun. Someone get this man a therapist.
Jin sees people in the comments asking about his lung. He explains it’s a condition called pneumothorax and says it was terrible. All of a sudden, he found himself unable to breathe and in a lot of pain. He rushed to the hospital right away.
About why “Kagerou Days” was included in the playlist even though it apparently had nothing to do with the theme, he clarifies that it’s because of the loops. The story keeps going in circles.
The people in the comments start asking again about his lung, and he says that it was indeed pretty painful and hard. It made him think that he had to take care of himself. One of the comments says that pneumothorax is a common disease among young Japanese men, which has Jin joking that pneumothorax is “young men representation”. Therapist, please.
He then plays “Daze”, and after it’s over, he recalls having major doubts about the lyrics, and is particularly pleased with the verse that goes “the concrete swayed”. He also absent-mindedly wonders what on Earth a “high-tempo attendance” is.
The next song is, as he puts it, “a song about madder red eyes”. He says that, when looking through the playlist, he realized that too many of his songs are dark. How he managed to overlook this for a literal decade is far beyond me. He also thinks a lot of people don’t know this song, but he likes it, so he added to the list. It’s a song that has “life” as theme, “TAO”. He says the full version of it is up on YouTube and asks everyone to listen. Then once again scurries to add the last two songs’ titles to the list.
After coughing a few more times, he apologizes for doing it so often and for possibly making it look like he’s sick or something, which he’s not. Then, he changes the settings of his mic and tests it out, which the people in the comments respond by saying he now sounds much better.
The following song is from his latest album, “Vanguard”. When he says he really likes said album, someone asks if he has confidence in it, and he replies that he does. He comments about the verse “I heard that you’d passed away, so I went on a journey”, explaining that he made this song after receiving the news that a friend of his had died. He composed it while thinking about how sad he was and how harsh this world is.
Jin also reveals that he had accidentally sung one note a little higher than he should, and while singing, he had been asking himself, “Was this song always so high”. He makes clear that the song is a lot calmer in the album and asks people to listen to it.
Then comes “Euphoria”. He plays, then stops for a moment, and then goes back to it while laughing. When done, he admits that he had been supposed to play this song in one of his concerts, but completely forgot to do so. He apologizes and jokes that he’d compensate everyone for it.
Going into the details of “Euphoria”, he says he composed it while recalling his boyhood and graduation from school. He explains that he was able to graduate normally despite spending a long time not going to school and that he had also been blessed with friends during those years. The song is like a recap of himself.
He realizes that, once again, he has forgotten to put the song titles on screen. When he does, he ends up adding one that he was not yet supposed to and hurries to take it back. The next one is “Borders”, a song that, much like “Love Song” from the previous livestream, is originally sung by Takahashi Rie, the voice of Myu from LISTENERS, and Jin would be performing a cover of it. After playing, he says he made the song while thinking of other people, which is evident from the verse “you and I are the same”.
As for how the last two songs fit with the theme, Jin explains, while tuning up his guitar, that it’s because they’re both related to being surrounded by people. Still while tuning up, he notices that Inpine is listening to the livestream and takes a moment to thank him for showing up. He reveals that Inpine was his classmate in grade school, so they go way back (more than 20 years). He says he’s very glad that Inpine is watching over him and whines about how difficult the next song is.
After “Entertainer”, he once again highlights how hard the song is to perform, especially by himself, since it’s originally performed by five people. He informs that there’s a music video for it on YouTube and that it’s also part of the latest album, so he’d like everyone to listen to it. He says it was a bad idea to sing on his own and promises to bring a girl to sing in his stead next time. On the topic of bringing someone to sing along, he comments there are softwares that allow people to do remote music sessions nowadays, and he’d love to try it out one day, so he’d be doing that in the next livestream.
Jin then goes on to play “World Calling”. As always, he tips in that he likes this song, and laughs about the fact that all he ever says is that he likes the songs he’s picked. Before the next track comes up, he says he’d like to fix up some of his songs and sing them again, and wonders if Shirakami and Yuumao would do it with him. He also says he’ll keep making new music as well and hopes people will look forward to it. It might take some time, but he was planning to release a lot of stuff.
The next on the list was “Otsukimi Recital”. After playing, Jin still keeps humming the melody and commenting about how nice it is. That’s about it for this one, lol.
Then comes a song that was commissioned to him, “Hoshi wo Tsunagete”. He composed this one for the anime “Kemono Friends”. After finishing, he says that this one, too, is up on YouTube and asks people to listen to the full version. He quite likes the lyrics of this song, which are mostly about the Earth and stars revolving around one another, and therefore fit very well with the theme.
Jin reveals that he’s thinking of doing a band concert livestream, so he’s been composing a lot of songs for it. He comments that lots of amazing younger musicians have been debuting the past years, and there are many who caught his attention among them, so he’s thinking of inviting some of these new talents to play as guests at the concert. He was thinking of naming it “Circle of Alone”, which is completely incomprehensible for anyone who knows basic English, but you can expect anything from Jin after the “Sam Our Time Record” fiasco.
Jin then performs the next two songs, “Stella” and “Sky of Beginning” without pause between them. “Sky of Beginning” is a song about chasing one’s aspirations. When making “Stella”, he found himself that things repeat themselves after a given number of years passes.
He announces that he would probably be using an electric guitar in the next livestream instead of an acoustic one, or perhaps he’d use both. He’d most likely be playing songs that he couldn’t include in Alone and Circle, so he’d be happy if people tuned in to listen.
The last song is “Remind Blue”. I saw that shit coming. He plays the song in its entirety, then bids his goodbyes after asking everyone to show up for the next one. The livestream ends there.

Jin’s Sing-and-Talk Livestream Side:Alone
Summary of this year’s livestream from Jin’s official YouTube channel. Original video here. Part 2 here. Done on commission!
The livestream starts with Jin checking his microphone and tuning his guitar. He plays a little bit while asking the listeners if the sound is okay. Then he proceeds to thank everyone who is listening and says he would like to perform a number of songs out of the music he has been making until now. He comments that even though it’s the tenth anniversary of his career, he doesn’t want to make the livestream too stiff because of that, and asks everyone to give their opinions about his music on Twitter and the like. He adds that although he decided to make this a two-day stream, which feels like a big deal, he’s actually streaming from his home.
Jin goes on to explain that the theme of this livestream is loneliness, since the first day’s livestream is titled “side:Alone”. Therefore, he wanted to play songs that evoke loneliness. When he starts playing, he stutters out that he’s getting nervous. He points out that the difference between his normal voice and singing voice is too big, and he hasn’t tuned up his voice enough, so he might break into falsetto. As he asks the listeners to wait a little bit, they urge him to hurry and begin, so he decides to just go for it and starts off with “Lost Time Memory”.
After he’s done, he says that he really likes the verse that goes, “don’t say such sad things” in particular. They’re not difficult words at all, but he’s glad to have put them in the lyrics. He then plays “Additional Memory”. Once it’s over, he says that he made the song with the image of “being alone despite having people around you”. He had once heard that when people pass away, they see their life flash before their eyes and an instant feels like an eternity, which had him thinking, “I see”, and that’s how he came up with the lyrics of it.
Before he plays the next song, “Inner Arts”, he says that he had made it long ago and would be happy if any of the listeners know it or like it. After playing, he says he created this song as a sort of cheer from within. He had actually messed up a part of it and explains that it was because he tried to read the comments while playing. He didn’t want to let them go unread and wishes he could do both things at the same time, but admits that he loses focus otherwise.
He then plays “Kiero”, one of his new songs, and says that if there was anyone who hadn’t heard of it yet, he would like them to listen. He says the lyrics are quite dark, but they match the theme “alone”. He quite likes the last part of the lyrics (“shut up, shut up, disappear, disappear”). He keeps coughing and clearing his throat every now and then but guarantees that he’s not sick or anything.
After a little bit of trivia about guitar playing and comments about how hard living is, Jin moves on to “101”, from “Sangatsu no Phantasia”. He’s proud of the lyrics and clarifies that “101” (originally read in English, “one-oh-one”) meant 1-0-1 in Japanese.
This was followed by “Kuusou Forest”. This one, too, is almost 10 years old. He laments ruining such a beautiful song by clearing his throat so much while playing, but can’t play it by himself without doing so because the notes are so high. He notes that all his songs are high and hard to sing, but he can play more or less the way he deems as ideal with an acoustic guitar. He calls it a “high-calorie song”, because it takes a lot of energy to play it.
He asks the listeners to allow himself to ready his heart for the next song, “Imaginary Reload”. Again, a song he really likes. He says he had “Kuusou Forest” in mind when making it. “Kuusou Forest” is a very uplifting song, so both might sound different, but he made them so that they would be like two sides of the same coin. He adds that perhaps quite a lot of his songs are like that.
The song that follows suit is a more cheerful one: “Yuukei Yesterday”. He makes a commentary on the “mitsuketa-ta-ta-ra taiyou wo niramitsukete” part of the lyrics, saying that it’s supposed to be “mitsuketa taiyou wo niramitsukete” and not “mitsuketara taiyou wo niramitsukete”. As to why he made it so easy to mistake, in his own words, he says he simply likes the catchy “ta-ta-ta-ra”.
He then announces that the next song is a bit loud, but goes for it without reserve. After he’s done with “Yobanashi Deceive” (which – surprise, surprise – is yet another song he likes), he says that he likes the funky sound of it, despite it being so hard to play. While preparing his guitar for more, he says that his stamina has come back.
The next song is “Lost Day Hour”, which is rather laidback, in contrast. Jin said he made it while thinking about the people who are treading their paths in life all by themselves. He comments about the simplicity of it and that he thinks it’s a very nice song. He has put the things he thinks about into it.
As the livestream reaches its last 20 minutes, Jin says he has an announcement to make, which might be a little bit late, but he had already posted said announcement to Twitter as well. After “Alone”, he wanted to use “Circle” as the next theme. The word “circle” bears the image of people gathering up, as opposed to “alone”, and of connecting bonds (because, although the theme’s title is “Circle” in English, the word “circle” in Japanese has the same pronunciation as the words “bond”, “fate” and “tidings”).
Jin resumes playing with the ending song of LISTENERS, “Love Song”, saying that the one who sings originally is the heroine’s voice actress, Takahashi Rie, but he would be singing a cover of it. He says that when he was writing the lyrics, he felt the chorus surging up within him. Although he always puts his feelings into all of his songs, this one hits particularly close to home and he wanted to convey that to the listeners.
He then takes a break. While doing so, he tips in on the fact that he enjoys coming up with themes to do things. He likes giving the fans food for thought with the meaning of the themes, like, “This song was used for Alone, so that one must be… for Circle, I guess”. He then announces his upcoming album and goes back to playing with a song from it, “FREAKS”. Not much was commented on this one other than that it’s a new song and that he’d like everyone to listen to the new release.
The next song is “RED”. All he says for this one is “This one was a song titled ‘RED’”, and then goes straight to playing “Summer Time Record”, lol. He was only playing half of each song, but as a good Haruka fanboy, he played the entirety of this one. He goes on to explain that these two songs overlap with his childhood days, which has left very vivid and lively impressions in his mind, but he thinks they’re very lonesome songs, so he added them to “Alone”.
Jin starts saying his goodbyes and announces that he’ll be finishing the livestream after one final song, “Gojitsutan” – one that he had written last summer. He also made this one while thinking about his childhood self. After he finishes playing, he admits that the last song got his throat. He says he’s going to train more and get his revenge on said song later. He then thanks everyone and says his goodbyes once more, ending the livestream while asking his fans to do their best at living their lives so that they could meet next time.
