Where to find them:

Read the exciting interview below the cut, or on the forum!

If you would like a chance to be in the spotlight too, the only thing you have to do is be a member of the kakairu rocks forum, and be a creator; and we will contact you, ourselves!

    1. How long have you been creating KakaIru fanworks?

I think I properly started creating KakaIru fanfics around the middle of 2020 because of COVID, but I only really started posting stuff towards the end of that year. I’m still pretty new to writing, so I’m still a bit unconfident, but we’re getting there lol.

    2. What are you working on right now?

So many things. I have like, 9 WiPs rn >.<, but I think the fic that’s closest to being done is a modern AU where Iruka and Kakashi are physicists. I’m also working on writing drabbles and ficlets to get back into things.

    3. What is your favourite trope to create for?

Idk that I have a particular trope, but I really enjoy writing bittersweet stories where tragedy has happened, but they’re working past it and things are getting better. If I was forced to choose tho, I think probably omegaverse if only because there are so many fascinating societal norms and aspects to explore and there’re so many things you can do with it. (like, I literally wrote a 1k+ word post to help world build omegaverse)

    4. Which of your creations is your favourite, and why?

Oh god. Please don’t make me choose. I love all of them. But I think I’ll point to “Staring Into the Stars”. If only because I think it’s sweet how much Iruka and Kakashi love each other and are there for each other.

    5. Do you have any WIPs you’re excited about?

Nothing in particular, but I do have a really interesting soulmate AU I’m fleshing out the world building on, so whenever I’m finished with that, that’ll probably be it.

    6. Do you have any original characters? If so, tell us about them!

Hmm, not particularly. I haven’t really written many fics that call for an original character yet. I do have a very minor character who I wrote as Iruka’s sensei in a fic that I think would’ve been really interesting to figure out more, but well, things got a bit difficult for them.

    7. What was your hardest piece to create, and why?

I think my most recent fic “The Quiet Moments” because it’d been a while since I’d written anything and I am/was rusty. It’s not my favourite, but I’m glad I was able to get something out to cleanse my writing palate as it were and hopefully make it easier to write something.

    8. Do you have any favourite scenes from something you’ve created?

Ooo. Basically the entirety of “A Pocket Full of Pixies”. It’s a dialogue only drabble and I love how every line just adds new context to what’s happening as it descends into utter hilarity.

    9. Where does your inspiration come from?

Heck. Idk. I think it comes from some combination of things I see in real life, books/media/fanfic I consume, and conversations I have with people both irl and online.

    10. Which of your creations is the most meaningful to you, and why?

This one’s a non-KakaIru Iruka centric fanfic called “Only to Forget”(CW: DARK. Please check the tags if you are interested in reading this fic), mostly because it shows the beginnings of someone pulling themselves out of both a spiral and their prejudice. They’re not there yet, but there’s hope. And I think it’s really important to show that not everyone’s always perfect and that’s okay. Fair warning though, it’s a pretty dark fic thus the CW.

Hey there! The votes are in, and it was a veryclose race, but we do have a winning theme for the KakaIru Maze Challenge 2022! And that is…

    The Supernatural & Paranormal!

Whether you think of ghost hunters, vampires, witches, demons, or cults, there’s all kinds of ways to interpret the theme; and we would like to hear about what it means to you.

What kind of things come to mind when you think of the supernatural and paranormal? What excites you about it? Is there anything in particular you would love to see explored in an amazing fic, or captured in gorgeous art?

If your mind is overflowing with ideas, or even if you just have one or two that work with the theme, please go to our form to submit your prompt suggestions for the mazes!

The last day to submit suggestions will be 31st May; and on 1st June, sign ups will open!

Now that the theme is revealed, we would like to kick things off with Part 1 of this year’s event fic, Liberation, which you can read below the cut! Like last year, each part will be released in certain stages of the event; so make sure you keep an eye out on our posts!

If you have any questions, please contact us! Mod @kakairu-shrine is the one in charge, so it is best to go directly to her.

If this is the first you’re hearing of the KakaIru Maze Challenge, or you would like to be reminded of the rules & guidelines, please take a look at last year’s post! We will post this year’s version very soon!

We can’t wait to see your ideas!

    Liberation: Part 1

Iruka walked silently along the dimly lit street, studying his surroundings carefully. It was dangerous for a human to be wandering around this time of night; and if he wasn’t on the top of his game, he could become a victim, too. That was why he was here in the first place.

Lately there have been a string of attacks from a rogue vampire that was not just thirsty for blood, but murder, too; and after others had failed to find and slay it several times now, Tsunade had finally sent him to dispose of it.

Iruka wished she had sent him to begin with, instead of the younger vampire slayers. Sure, they were quite skilled for their age, and did need to go on these kinds of missions to gain experience, but more often than not, in their excitement to kill vampires, teenagers tended to overlook things, and either got seriously injured or killed. And he didn’t want to see another body bag. Not when death could be prevented by sending someone like him, an expert, instead.

Suddenly, Iruka felt like he was being watched; and his hand trailed to his hip, where his holster was strapped, as he studied everything more carefully, more alert than ever.

He didn’t see anything unusual around him, but somehow, the shadows seemed darker, and the world quieter, as though nature knew there was a predator lurking about, and had crept back into safety, and was observing sadly, knowing that there would be another victim of the night soon.

But when Iruka saw a shadow leaping off a roof toward him from behind, he quickly side-stepped and pulled out his stake, ready to fight. Humans weren’t going to be the victim this time.

The vampire landed on all fours where Iruka had been standing seconds before, and turned its head towards him, bearing its fangs as it let out a ferocious snarl; and when Iruka charged right for it, going straight for the attack, it rose and dove for his neck, hungry, and eager for his blood.

Iruka stumbled back as it slammed into him, and pushed it away as it tried to bite him, but the vampire was strong and began to overpower him. If Iruka had to guess, it was newly transformed, considering how animalistic and desperate for blood it was - it would do anything, it seemed; and its lack of control, and strong will made it dangerous.

But a new vampire’s beast-like manner was also a weak point, Iruka had learnt. Sure, they were stronger in general, but they also weren’t as aware of their surroundings than adjusted vampires; and he knew how to use that to his advantage.

The vampire knocked Iruka to the ground in the struggle, and quickly gripped ahold of his shoulders tightly, holding him down as it went in for the bite, but before it could sink its fangs into his skin, Iruka mustered all of his strength and plunged his stake into it, stabbing it in the heart; and it stiffened and let out a guttural scream before going limp and falling heavily on top of him.

Iruka lay still, waiting anxiously to see if the vampire was going to fight back, but a few seconds later, it turned to ash; and he sighed in relief as his stake rolled onto the ground and the weight was lifted from him.

Iruka grabbed his weapon and put it back in place when he rose; and as he began to brush the ashes off his clothes, an evening breeze came by, spreading them across the land; and Iruka put a hand to his chest.

“You can rest easy now.” He said, watching the vampire’s remains scatter. “May you reach the place you’re supposed to be.”

When he had confirmed that everything was fine in the area, Iruka turned to make his way back to the vampire slayer hideout and report, but after a few paces, he heard a strange call, and looked up to see an owl flying for him, holding a small tube with its feet.

When it reached him, it dropped the tube, and flew up to the nearest tree to sit and wait; and Iruka opened the tube curiously, wondering why Tsunade had sent him a message when she knew he’d be returning soon.

    Iruka,

I need you to finish your mission as quickly as possible, as there is somewhere else I need you to be.

About a week ago, I sent Kakashi to remove a small coven that has recently taken over the pub near the bank; and he hasn’t returned yet. I am concerned that the mission wasn’t as easy as it seemed, and that something has happened to him.

Please investigate his disappearance and rescue him, and aid him in killing the remaining vampires if you can.

    Time is of the essence.

    - Tsunade

As Iruka read the message, his hands began to shake, and his heart dropped; and he began to sprint to his next destination. He had to leave. Now.

A week was a long time with a vampire.

Thank you to everyone who nominated prompts for the KakaIru Maze Challenge 2022! There were so many wonderful suggestions, but somehow, we’ve managed to narrow them down to only 20!

It was very hard to choose the top ones since so many of them were so good, but by basing our decision on how generic the theme was and how easy it would be to come up with prompts for the mazes, we managed to cut the list down.

With a lot of the particularly specific ideas, we were able to convert them to a more generic theme; and if said theme gets chosen, the original idea will absolutely be added as a maze prompt!

Now that we have our list, we are ready for you to vote on your favourites, so please head on over to our form and make your pick! You have until 30th April to decide; and we will reveal the winning theme, and more event details on 1st May!

We can’t wait to see what you choose!

    Meta Monday!

Hey guys! There is just FIVE days left to nominate theme suggestions for the KakaIru Maze Challenge 2022!

We have a theme suggestion form that will be open until 20th April, then from 21st April - 30th April, you will be able to nominate your favourites!

We will share more details of the event later, but if you want to be reminded of how the KakaIru Maze Challenge works, you can read last year’s guidelines here!

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!

We can’t wait to hear from you!

Uh oh! Some sneaky shinobi have broken into the forum, and ninjafied the place!

From a first glance, things will look the same - they were shinobi, after all!; but it seems like an intense battle has taken place, as they left behind some weapons in our emoji section, but not only the standard shuriken and kunai - the ANBU made an appearance, too, and there are some strange tags & bombs (where’s Iruka-sensei when you need him?!).

The shinobi haven’t come back for their weapons, so we’ve decided to keep them; and you can use them to your heart’s content!

We think the battle was more serious than just a spat, and that there is turmoil between the Great Five Nations, too, as we also found Hidden Village symbols in the emoji section, and five new badges (and thus, titles) where each of the nations are trying to recruit more shinobi on their side.

As we are a group for everyone, we aren’t siding with any nation in particular, and would like for you to choose for yourself, where your loyalties lie! Do you feel like you belong as a Leaf shinobi? Are you part of the Sand? Supporters of the Mist? Resonating with the Cloud? Or perhaps allied to Stone?

So come on by and let us know which nation you’d like to side with - there might be another Great Shinobi War coming, and your village is going to need you!

We hope you enjoy learning about Cami & her creations as much as we did. Please give her some love ❤️

    Pronouns: She/Her

    Type of Creator: Writer

    Where to find her:

Read the exciting interview below the cut, or on the forum!

If you would like a chance to be in the spotlight too, the only thing you have to do is be a member of the kakairu rocks forum, and be a creator; and we will contact you, ourselves!

    1. How long have you been creating KakaIru fanworks?

Since 2016. That’s the first time I signed up for an event and that gave me the courage to publish my works. I’m kinda shy.

    2. What are you working on right now?

Right now I’m not working on anything but I just signed up for the Reverse Bang so that’s my next project. I’m very excited about it too.

    3. What is your favourite trope to create for?

I’d have to say Idiots in love. It just has so much potential, you can’t go wrong there. Although, I think most of my works have been for events so I write what the event ask for.

    4. Which of your creations is your favourite, and why?

That’s an easy one: A human’s worth. I struggled a lot with that fic, but I like how it worked out.

When I was writing it and after finishing it, I was very disappointed because I thought it had more potential than what I could write, but in hindsight I really like it. I think it’s very original and has a lot of background that makes it interesting. I’m really proud of that project.

I guess I learnt a lesson there too. We’re our worst critiques and we tend to be so hard on ourselves that sometimes good stories never see the light of being published.

    5. Do you have any WIPs you’re excited about?

I’ve never written a multi-chapter fic, so no. But after the Bang, that will be my next challenge.

    6. Do you have any original characters? If so, tell us about them!

So far I’ve stuck to Kishimoto’s characters because my plots haven’t asked for original ones.

    7. What was your hardest piece to create, and why?

That would be A God’s Dawn. I had to create so much mythology to give form to my idea and so much of it never even made it to the fic. I always wanted to write more for that verse and still have so much more of that story to tell, but every time I sit to write it I get stumped. I haven’t given up yet, but I can’t be sure of when I might do it finally.

    8. Do you have any favourite scenes from something you’ve created?

I guess the whole of Kakashi, Iruka, and the Little Monster is one big wholesome, sweet scene. It’s found family and that’s another favourite trope.

    9. Where does your inspiration come from?

I think my biggest inspiration is my best friend. She’s always discussing ideas with me and encouraging me to write. She’s my sounding board and my cheerleader. She’s the first pair of eyes to read what I write and without her I wouldn’t be half the writer I am.

    10. Which of your creations is the most meaningful to you, and why?

That would be the collaboration fic, The Perks of Promotion: Choose Your Own KakaIru that I did with anniemar, flailinginlove, CappuccettoRosso, Glommier, Hexadecimalrebooted, ladyxdream and water_bby. There’s a lot of us, I know.

I guess that project is the most meaningful because I was asked to do it and worked along so many wonderful people and creators I was in awed. I still can barely believe my name is alongside them all.

I think my chapter is the worst of the fic, but as I said, we are our worst critiques and it was an amazing experience so all is good.
