Nothin’ but the Rain

Galactica should be big enough.
She’s packed with
refugees,
an endless sea of people
floating
in the vastness
of space.

Galactica
should
be big enough.
But she’s not.

Lee asks her to
stay
away.
To give him some
space.
(Space in space.
Thanks for the laughs, Lee.)
So she tries to get lost
in the tide of humans,
or to hide in her rack,
or to find other places
to make herself
small.
But she has to be on duty
sometimes.
And anyway,
if she hides away too much
people will ask
questions,
will wonder.
Already half think she’s crazy,
half think she’s a legend.
She doesn’t want either half–
or both–
thinking she’s fallen into some kind of…
despair.

Which she hasn’t.

But Lee is everywhere,
eyes hurt and accusing.
She’s failing.
And falling.

Or are they the same thing?
