The sky was dark, and Kevin’s face was cast in shadows where he stood on the sidewalk.
Madison stood on the porch, under the glow of the single porch light. The air was chilly so she tucked her hands inside the sleeves of her robe and crossed her arms under her chest.
“I think Elijah’s going to propose to me,” she said.
“Oh.” Kevin pressed his lips together, nodding once. He shifted and his shoe scuffed the sidewalk. “Um. How does that make you feel?”
She searched his face for how he felt. “Can you handle the truth?” He dropped his gaze for a second before looking back at her.
“Yeah,” he said.
Madison took a breath. “Excited, I think. We talked about marriage early on and…” she trailed off, unsure of how far she should take this conversation. She was happy with Elijah—truly. But what about the part of her who still saw an impossible what if every time she met Kevin’s gaze? With the way he was looking at her now, she wondered what he saw.

the thing about me is i was only loosely invested in this is us so whether kevin ended up with madison or sophie i was chill because i felt lots of potential for both ships from what i saw of the episodes so whoever ended up being kevin’s endgame, good for them, but the three of them could’ve made it work i know it in my heart

Madison feels herself soften at the sight of Kevin tiptoeing back into the bedroom though, eyes focused on the tea mug he’s holding like he’s afraid he’ll spill it. Kevin looks up and notices she’s awake, and gives her this warm, gorgeous smile. “Hey there, Sleeping Beauty,” he calls out as he carefully puts the mug down on her nightstand. The mattress dips under his weight as he sits on the side of the bed, and Kevin strokes his hand down her cheek as he leans in, dropping the softest, lightest kiss to her forehead. “I didn’t mean to wake you up,” he apologizes.
Madison cranes her neck, seeking his mouth as Kevin pulls away. He kisses her softly, gently at first, until she fists her hand in the front of his shirt and he hums against her lips as he deepens the kiss. In less than a few seconds Madison goes from tired and surly to hot and bothered, looping her other arm around his neck to pull him closer. Kevin chuckles into the kiss, bracing himself over her not to crush her; his fingers tangle in her hair, caress down her face and angle it so with his thumb tucked in the dimple of her chin to kiss her the way he wants to, the way she wants him to, eager and already a little out of breath. “How - how fashionably late can you be on set today?” Madison asks him as she pants for breath, her hands already slipping beneath his shirt, clutching at his sides.
