#this is us
I want a This Is Us fic called “Jack and Nicky” that’s not about the elder Pearson brothers (though they can show up in flashbacks I guess) but about the baby cousins as they grow up together. I don’t want Jack Pearson disowning his baby brother, I want Jack Damon supporting his baby cousin.
We’ll Live Happily
The sky was dark, and Kevin’s face was cast in shadows where he stood on the sidewalk.
Madison stood on the porch, under the glow of the single porch light. The air was chilly so she tucked her hands inside the sleeves of her robe and crossed her arms under her chest.
“I think Elijah’s going to propose to me,” she said.
“Oh.” Kevin pressed his lips together, nodding once. He shifted and his shoe scuffed the sidewalk. “Um. How does that make you feel?”
She searched his face for how he felt. “Can you handle the truth?” He dropped his gaze for a second before looking back at her.
“Yeah,” he said.
Madison took a breath. “Excited, I think. We talked about marriage early on and…” she trailed off, unsure of how far she should take this conversation. She was happy with Elijah—truly. But what about the part of her who still saw an impossible what if every time she met Kevin’s gaze? With the way he was looking at her now, she wondered what he saw.

*Remembers these men are all fictional characters and I rarely meet men in real life as extraordinary as ones on film, and rarely see women on film as extraordinary as ones I know in real life.*

"Pet, now that work is over, who’s in control?”
"You are, Sir. Always.”
"Good girl, pet. Who do you belong to, pet?”
"You, Sir. Always.”
"Show me what position I like my good girl in when I come home.“
"Yes, Sir.”
"Good girl, pet. Eyes right up here.”
"Yes, Sir. Always.”
THIS is the type of submissive I am.

But him giving her permission to take a rest, like you’ve earned the rest — oof, that really, really got me. That idea of you’re so strong… [she trails off] sorry, I get emotional thinking about it… but for someone to tell her, “You lived a great life and you were an incredible mother and you had all of this tragedy befall you, and you still made such a beautiful thing of all of it. And now you’re allowed to rest. I think just getting that [she starts to cry] permission from someone that she didn’t even know very well, but loved so much and held in such high regard really just went such a long way. And that, oof, that got me. Still gets me, obviously.
