#kill switch

LIVE

This iconic song was used in the trailers, which I suspect was itself a pop-culture reference to an X-Files episode that featured the song prominently as the kill switch to an evil A.I. not unlike Ultron and a girl who sacrificed herself to join her dead boyfriend in cyberspace. Sound similar? Mulder and Scully even debate at the end on whether sentient artificial life is the same as human life.

I’ve been a huge fan of viral marketing for movies and since I’m currently on a bit of a Dan Stevens kick rn, I  was watching the Kill Switch teaser and noticed a coupla things. Ramblings under the cut:

  • the first shot with first-person HUD-esque visuals names the footage as being seen by William Porter - ie. Dan’s character
  • “connected to visual cortex“ - anyone who knows me will know that this sorta thing is my jam tbh >_>
  • this movie seems to be taking place in 2043
  • the name of the company in question is Alterplex Energy (which tallies up with a character mentioned from IMDB)
  • the message “you are under arrest” is displayed a few times
  • there are drones present which Will is operating - I’m assuming that since he’s supposed to be a pilot, these are what he guides?
  • an explosion that takes place sees that one of his pursuing drones in question are from Alterplex, based on a fragment that comes apart
  • thepresskillswitch site stated at the end shows a countdown, and the source-code behind the page gives the message “Hello again, are you ready?”

  • “What’s in the box?“ briefly flashes up during the teaser which could link to an old video, set in England by the same channel “Timacious” from 2009 - the box is question in the older video seems to be the same one shown at the start of the Kill Switch teaser with the red circle
  • the older video shows the use of a computer-brain interface from Babel Research, which ties in quite well with all the shots from the teaser
  • there’s the inclusion of the wormhole-esque manifestation in the sky in both videos
  • tbh i rec watching the older video - it’s only 8 mins long and is p cool.
