Another beautiful commission of Lila and Lenù by Lady Turbalina. This one is inspired on a scene of the fic La hora del lobo, but it also serves as general compensation for all the bottled up feelings in season 3. ️‍

Also, the world needs more Lila in jeans.

elena-lila:

I know this is funny to make memes about, etc, but when Lila tries to erase her whole existence, Lenu can’t stand it because Lila is a part of her. How can Lila erase a part of her?! Lila’s self-erasure may be her own right, but the friend (Elena) she touched above any other human is so distraught that she chronicles their life. The one part of Lila’s self that Lila cannot erase is Lenu, and it’s just such a powerful way for Elena to convey ‘how dare you, my soulmate, try to deny you were ever a part of me and I was a part of you.’

SPOILERS FOR MY BRILLIANT FRIEND - BOOK 4 ENDING

I’ve been trying to make sense of the dolls thing for years because it was never fully convincing for me, especially the way Lila may have kept them throughout the decades. What prompts Lila to give the dolls to Lenù precisely at that point? Lenù has just finished writing the whole story about them. Considering that she already wrote Un'amiciziabefore, which is what (supposedly) drove Lila away from her, is there anything different now? Did Lila actually get inside Lenù’s computer and read what she wrote?

And then Lila decided to leave the dolls (not send the dolls, but most likely leave them there herself) as a sign of… “I get it, you’re not gonna give up on trying to narrate me, are you?”. So is it a “screw you too”? Is it a “you never knew shit and hence you’ll never be able to tell the truth”? Or is it “fine; those two I kept for decades are under your control now”? Because to me it is definitely a taunt but I’m not sure it means that Lenù is supposed to just take it and not act at all.

When I recently learnt that Ms. Ferrante actually considered a HAPPY ending and wrote quite a lot of pages in that direction (this would require a new post), I was shocked. Like WTF WOULD YOU DO THIS TO US IF YOU ALSO WANTED THE ENDGAME. But yeah, she definitely thought that Lenù’s writing would elicit a whole response from Lila, who would in turn make her presence known and felt again. Which is… kind of what we all wanted???

And; OP, I’m sorry for the visceral reaction; your post was beautiful and so very true

“Sentii per la prima volta l'urto del tempo, la forza che mi stava sospingendo verso i quaranta, la velocità con cui la vita si consumava, la concretezza dell'esposizione alla morte: se sta succedendo a lei, pensavo, non c'è scampo, succederà anche a me.”
