Me: Throws a party, tells everyone it’s a potluck.
Me: Spends two days cooking. Menu: Three quiches (spinach, zucchini and feta; mushroom, asparagus and gruyere; crab, artichoke and smoked gouda); homemade sweet and sour chicken, chips with homemade guacamole and tomatillo salsa, salad with homemade raspberry lime vinagrette, devil’s food cupcakes with cheesecake filling, assorted nuts and chips.
Boyfriend: Why are you cooking so much? You told people it was a potluck! They’ll bring food!
Friends: Show up with no food, but many bottles of wine and bourbon, because they know me.
Me: Feeds everyone and is smug.
1. Make more art. Carry the sketchbook everywhere, and draw or doodle something in it every day.
2. Engage in better self-care. Recognize when I’m focusing too much on work (ALL THE TIME) or things I can’t control (ALSO ALL THE TIME) and take time for myself.
3. Be more compassionate and encouraging with the important people in my life: students, friends, family, colleagues, and self.
4. Practice the drums for at least 30 minutes every day.
