always very weird to me when I see economists and such get treated as scientific peers by physicists and such, like, I know economists have a protective shell of math around their nonsense, but that shouldn’t fool people who actually use math, right?

when you ask a physicist “what will happen now” or “how would this work”, they’ll pull up or estimate some numbers, do some back-of-the-envelope math, get a result somewhere in the right order of magnitude, become dissatisfied with that, get much more precise numbers, do the math more diligently, and get you a much more detailed result than you ever wanted

when you ask this kind of stuff of an economist, they give you some vibes
