Fic Summary: Damien won yesterday, Arum won today, and now all that’s left is to break the tie. The only issue, however, is that neither of them are willing to do so, not until they are both satisfied that they have fought fairly, and honorably, and one of them has trulywon.
Chapter Summary: Damien loses his footing, for a brief time.
Chapter Notes: aughhghgh. arum. stupid lizard.

Another duel. Arum pins his quarry, and Damien’s heart thuds hard and sweet, his sweat a heady taste on the air when Arum flicks his tongue. Another victory.
Arum grins, all pride and gloating even as he tugs the knight back to his feet, careful only to grip his wrist where his sleeve will keep Damien’s warm skin from touching his own scales. Another duel, another victory, another chance-
Arum is greedy. Arum is foolish, perhaps. Arum still wants more.

Another duel. Another victory. Damien bites his lip, his back pressing into the dirt, Arum’s claws against his throat. Victory tastes… strange, this time. Dubious, at best. He tries not to let on to the feeling, his voice still smug as they arrange for their next duel.
Still more. Again.

Another duel, and Damien falls again beneath his claws and his speed, gasping and flushed and refusing to meet Arum’s eyes, and Arum-
Frowns. He is short with the knight, but Damien gives nothing away, closed off and muted as they go through their familiar verbal dance.
Something isn’t right. Arum doesn’t know how- doesn’t know what-
This is not how their duels are supposed to be. This isn’t why Arum is here.
He wants more. More than whatever thisis.

Another duel. Another… victory.
Arumslams Damien back against the wide trunk of a tree, this time, snarling in his face as the poet gasps.
“What are you playingat?”

I’m so glad these past two episodes have been nothing but Damien and Arum having a nice lunch with no complications or southern accents
