My client @telombre in his sun king crown! I have always loved this look of the French sun king (the dancing king) and was incredibly intrigued by it. This crown was quite a challenge because of the size and shape. Telombre also requested it to be light weight so I used mostly sculpture foam for it. It is amazing to see this crown styled with the outfit and such a fantastic model and performer. Telombre added the feathers himself to match the outfit. <3 Send me a message on [email protected] for your own custom made items #crown #headdress #sun #louisxiv #telombre #costume #gold

Here’s a slightly better look at my bonkers little 18th century suit. I will share some closeups of all the silly embroidery soon! The buttons are all hand embellished. A tiny detail but worth it for the extra panache!
I wanted to be Julie D’Aubigny but absolutely ended up as a dusty romantic vampire instead. I need a little court sword to compete the look. Part of the fun of making this was stumbling onto the fabric for the coat in an upholstery shop in Florida while I was visiting for a family funeral. My Great Aunt always loved an exuberant project and part of me feels like she handed me this material because it’s perfect. We’ll be back to regularly scheduled I Do Declare content soon!

There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: music and cats.
Théophile Gautier

To this I would add books and friends.
Here’s my silly 18th century suit. I’ve been working on it for months very slowly around the edges of IDD. Every day I’d wrap up my sewing for work and sit to do a little bit of hand sewing or embroidery in the evenings. It took ages but I’m so happy with the results. The idea was to create something that had Julie D’Aubigny vibes. The way I styled it ended up a little bit more Stede Bonnet as a dusty vampire but that’s not too bad! It’s not meant to be historically accurate in any way, the vest and jacket are patterns that I’ve made. The vest is a longer version of my Charley vest embellished with stamped brass sequins and embroidered buttons. The jacket is a style I’ve made a few times in the past but pulled back to give it more 1705 vibes. Figuring out how to pack the volume of the pleats in was a fun series of puzzles. The pants are a heavily modified version of the @black_snail_patterns 1790’s trousers. I changed the closure from a fall front to a center button placket to make them look a bit more like an early 18thc style, then I raised the waistline and added silly flap pockets.
All in all it felt very nice to make something just for fun, and to take my time at it. #idodeclare #idodeclareshop #costuming #18thcentury #18thcenturyfashion #18thcenturycostume #historicalfashion #historicalcostuming #baroque #rococo #louisxiv #fetesgalantes2022 #fetesgalantes #frillybusiness #justalittlelad #wholovesberriesandcream (at Bayeux, Basse-Normandie, France)
