Danger Dad

We love a father protecting his found family <333

BUT ALSO, FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION—

“I don’t like humans who carry guns”

“They make me nervous”

~~~
This might just be a headcanon of mine, but I don’t think Luther likes guns in general. (I’m also not saying OP was implying that he did with the gifset, it just got me thinking and I had to share my thoughts haha but yes—)
Luther’s entire life, by his reckoning, has been nothing but violence, most prominently the torture and disfigurement of his fellow beings, either by his hand or allowed by his inaction at Zlatko’s side. (Which wasn’t his fault, having not deviated yet, but I can’t help but think that the question of “why didn’t I deviate sooner?” would plague him once he had half a moment to process everything.) He’s probably had enough of violence, barring what he sees as necessary for self defense and protection.
And there is indeed a clear instance of him eschewing the option to carry and only taking what he sees as strictly necessary. Luther, Kara, and Alice are running for their lives, their very existence is illegal, one of their number is at a serious physical disadvantage, and there is a high likelihood of encountering hostile, even lethal, opposition in the near future—so he takes a handgun (which Kara is surprised to find in his bag when they reach Pirate’s Cove). But notice the shotgun (which he can clearly and conspicuously use) never makes a reappearance.
And sure, one could argue that the shotgun might’ve been out of shells, and if you got the house-burning-down option, there probably wasn’t time to find the spare ammo. But Luther still doesn’t take it even in the routes where the house doesn’t burn down. One could also argue it was a matter of conspicuousness, too, but it would have been just as easy for Luther’s bag to be a duffle and no one would have blinked twice at them finding something like that in Zlatko’s house and taking it. If this was a less story-based game, there likely would have been an option to loot Zlatko’s house after escaping and killing him, and you can bet most people would want all the protection they could get. Even as a more story-based game, however, the characters still had the opportunity to do these things (off-screen), even if the player didn’t. Which means it was a deliberate choice on Luther’s part.
So while Danger DadTM gifsets are fun (and ty, op, for the nice assemblage of them haha), I don’t think Luther likes guns. I don’t think he likes violence by any means. He takes no joy in it, but he won’t shy away from it when the lives of those he love are on the line. I think his whole life philosophy is best summed up by one of my favorite quotes from Lord of the Rings:
I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory.I love only that which they defend.
And that’s high key one of the reasons I like and respect his character so much.
