Took Harry in for a long-deferred vet visit. He doesn’t go out and is healthy, so it’s been a few years.
Main reason for visit was a lump he’s had on his side or five or six months. It seemed to be mostly fluid and I tried to get rid of it but was unsuccessful. The vet aspirated it, with a syringe, and maybe a teaspoon of clear fluid came out. She said there is a good probability it will refill, but knowing it’s benign, just clear stuff, I shouldn’t worry about it. If at some point he comes in for a procedure or surgery where he needs to be sedated, they can actually remove it then. She said it was always good to check on lumps.
Since I was there, I also described the three different incidents of “digestive distress” Harry has had, where he has exploded at both ends. The last time there was a big hairball at the end of it, so I thought maybe hair is plugging up his tummy or something. Anyway, she gave me a big tube of anti-hairball medicine. Maybe as he’s getting older he just can’t handle it. The medicine is supposed to taste like tuna, so I expect he will love it.
We also got Harry caught up on all his shots, which were way, way behind, no big deal since he’s inside, but if he’s around other cats or some other situation, he’s set.
Weight in: 13.1 pounds. I was sure that he had gained 4-5 lbs., he seems pretty heavy lately, but it’s the same. Maybe because when you hold him, he is just dead weight.
Harry was a trooper riding on Lyft and at the exam. The only thing he complained about was a shot in his butt. (Can’t blame him.) The needle poking into the lump was fine. He’s now taking a nap. Turns 11 next month.
Ths was from back when my other cat was sick. If tell Harry not to touch her food until she is eating or has finished eating, he will just sit there patiently.
Harry believes all food and even drink is for him. Case in point: taking a picture (for my blog) of some licorice I was about to eat and who starts whining? None for you, cat!
I used to have a dresser that was just the right height for Harry to jump up on. He didn’t do this generally unless he wanted to jump up, sit and stare at me from across the room in an attempt to prompt me to get out of bed.
