a little sneek peak at something i’m currently writing (taichihaya A to Z)—
Attention
“‘Chiha’ isn’t here,” she notes, eyes sweeping through the twenty-five cards on the tatami mat. Playing the way Shinobu does won’t work for her; the last three matches showed her that much. Then again, years of countless matches and special relationships have made the cards dear to her, too.
“'Chiha’ isn’t here, but 'tachi’ is.”
Brilliance
“Ah, that never gets old,” Taichi rubs tears from his eyes, catching his breath after a bout of unrestrained laughter.
Chihaya huffs, her own breaths spent rapping to Chitose’s hit song on the karaoke. She’ll gladly do it again, though, for as long as Taichi keeps wearing that brilliant smile every time she does.
Competition
“Oligo! What’s with this mess? You know Hayashi-san won’t be back 'til next week.” Reiko sighs at the assortment of art materials and newspaper clippings littering the floor.
“B-but! Ayase-san thinks 10 scrapbooks is too much to cover all of Taichi’s achievements. You’ve seen Chihaya-chan’s pretty ones last time, haven’t you?”
“I did. I’ll also say Taichi doesn’t need ten of them.”
“How can you say that, Reiko?! When his room is full of trophies and medals, not counting karuta awards and high school…”
“Exactly,” she settles on the space across her husband. “Pass me the scissors. We’re making twenty.”
Desk
“Taichi! What’s taking you so long?” she charges into his apartment, voice breaking through the silence in the room, picnic basket swinging in her hand. “The train leaves at 10, didn’t you say so-” Chihaya abruptly stills, taking in the sight of him from his desk.
She tiptoes the rest of the way inside. After switching the basket for a throw pillow on the couch, she rests his head on the soft cushion. Carding her fingers through his silky hair, Chihaya mutters, “Guess you owe us another date, Sleeping Beauty.”
Escape
'Go back to Tokyo. I dare you.’ Chitose challenges silently, staring after the retreating back of the boy who, as it turns out, is a fool as much as he is a gentleman.
She leaves one last thought before boarding her own train. 'If you really think escaping from love is as easy as falling into it, then go back to Tokyo, Mashima-kun.’
Forever
Cherry blossom petals on tatami mat. Verses of poetry ringing through the club room. Chihaya, handing him her card and her keeping his. The words, “Taichi, let’s play karuta forever!”
Long before Taichi bends on one knee, Chihaya’s already asked for his hand.
Each day had been tumultuous, but sometimes I would realize that right now I am here. I didn’t even think about All Might watching me, I never thought the day would come where I could speak so naturally with Kacchan. I’m… very fortunate.
