Girlfriends!!
I got new rats!
Following the loss of Winnie last week I made an appointment to visit the local rat rescue, that happened to be the day after I lost Emily.
I was able to bring 3 lovely ladies into my home and I feel they really are a good choice for me!
Introducing: Maple, a 3 year old (I had to get her the second I learned how old she was but she’s very spritely for being ancient) agouti who was returned for not being playful enough but I have been able to cuddle her lots and she still gets on the wheel in her old age. Here she is in her favorite place, the food bowl (I also completely think Maple looks exactly like the rodents of unusual size from Princess Bride due to her face being a bit more square than usual)
Next we have Bonnabel (Bonnie for short), a Himalayan dumbo that is roughly a year old. She came to the rescue pregnant and is actually the mother of the other girl I adopted! She will not let me hold her just yet but is very happy to come to the doors to sniff my hands and take some treats
And finally, we have Marceline (Marcy for short), she is the daughter of Bonnie and is a black rex that is roughly 6 months old. Marcy does not let me touch her and is not as eager to greet me, but she is willing to take treats from me and is happy to greet me from the side of the cage when she knows I can’t reach her.
So far it’s been going really great and I am planning to spend the next 2 weeks working on bonding before starting any kind of introductions to my current 3 (Munchkin, TinTin and Arwen). Though Tin has made it her mission to climb the new girls cage to peek in and meet them on her terms, much to my dismay, so we spend her free time with me at the cage ready to peel her off the bars before someone gets hurt.
**yes, Marcy and Bonnie are in fact named after the Adventure Time characters but Maple is just named after the syrup because for some reason she has a sickly sweet scent to her that I cannot figure out
