Margaret Macdonald

1849-1936

Art Nouveau-style painting, with many flowing, natural lines and detailed patterns. In the center, forming a huge red heart, is a bearded Filipino bakla, hip cocked. The heart is cradled in branches full of smaller, golden hearts. Beside the main figure are two smaller portraits of my lesbian writer bestie with the rainbow flag, and of a musician with a trans flag.ALT

My piece for Classics but make it gay, Vol. 2! Really have been lucky to have been part of this again~

This piece is based off Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh’s Queen of Hearts, with the figures switched for the real gay and trans inspirations in my life. A bit more personal to me in a very physical sense—not my usual type of work, but really happy how this turned out :]
