Ths is a reader’s response to last week’s LA Times profile on Matthew GoodE by Mary McNamara.

Below is the concluding paragraph of her op piece. Highest compliment on Matthew’s performance. Full article under the cut.

Mary McNamara’s outstanding analysis notwithstanding, I’m not sure that Robert Evans would not have approved of Matthew Goode playing him in “The Offer.”

Although this flyover-nobody did not know Mr. Evans personally, I was lucky enough to have a small correspondence with him on Twitter between 2013 and 2017.

I nearly had a stroke (which would have smashed the oversized Evans-like sunglasses I also like) when he followed me and then felt another coming on when he responded several times to my thanks for the follow.

Over the years, I was just a bit less shocked when he would thoughtfully respond to my tweets, which were about decidedly non-Hollywood subjects. I even got a bit accustomed to the occasional direct message and greeting.

Yes, he was an older man by the time I made his online acquaintance. But he seemed to be an older man who perhaps was never as wholly outrageous as his publicly wild lifestyle might have suggested.

The Kid definitely remains in the picture, portrayed by an actor who might capture more of the Evans behind the sunglasses and the headlines. He just might have liked that very much.

Thank you for Mary McNamara’s breathtaking portrait of Matthew Goode as Hollywood icon Robert Evans [“Matthew Goode Amps It Up,” May 8]. The photographer [Dania Maxwell] perfectly captured the drama, class and glamour of a bygone era and personified the depth brought to the role by this amazing actor.

It was an unexpected Mother’s Day treat.

Matthew Goode’s Brief Encounter with Twitter.

This is hilarious.  Matthew had a few drinks and joined Twitter - for a very brief time.  Obviously we can’t rule out a ‘fake’ but whoever it was they know Matthew really well so it could be a family prank.   I think it was him.  Even without the blue tick (coz you just know that he wouldn’t have a clue about verifying his account) all of the messages are totally HIM.  Especially being polite enough to sign his tweets - which is just frickin’  adorable!

Thank you to @adow-trash for passing on all of his messages for me to share here.  -

Matthew changed his @ to goodey101 shortly after his initial tweet to Steven Cree.

Love his description of himself - again - totally HIM.  The ‘dear boy’ and ‘chin chin’ - absolutely him (or someone who knows him SO well - his brother???  Pure speculation from me).

Sadly Matthew deleted his account after gaining over a thousand followers in record time!   Ah well.  A ‘couple of bottles’ was probably the real reason for this lapse in Matthew Goode’s boycott of social media.  Either he came to his senses or his PR co panicked!   It was lovely while it lasted.

Thanks to @adow-trash for the screen grabs

⬆️  here you go Anon.  It was fun while it lasted.

Haha.  I was definitely under 25 when I found this rabbit hole and have been held prisoner ever since.  At this stage it’s sort of like Stockholm Syndrome.

Sky Portrait Artist of the Year for 2019 is being repeated tonight on Sky.  It’s available on catch up and NowTV anyway but thought I’d highlight it in case you missed Matthew Goode being one of the guest sitters in tonight’s episode.  Matthew wasn’t the best behaved sitter -

He nearly fell asleep -

He joked about Gin being in his water bottle -

He flirted with Joan (she’s over 80 but hell that wasn’t gonna stop him!) -

He joked with the painters -

He smiled too much -

He managed to be polite and funny even tho’ someone painted his eyes way too close together -

and I don’t know what he was doing here -

Anyway - Matthew was his adorable self and the programme is goode as well.

[Pics - my edits from SPAOTY - i’ve put a load of screenshots on matthew-goode.net]

Repeated on Sky Arts tomorrow at 6pm - oh it’s 6:30 - oh well you can see it on catch up.

OMG this was peak Bob. Hilarious. Yet again, Matthew is not just delivering the lines - he’s animating them. He embellishes every word with his body language.   Give that man an Emmy right now.

REVIEW: ‘The Offer’ Is Outstanding Through 7 Episodes

The Offer (Credit: Nicole Wilder/Paramount+ ©2022 Paramount Pictures)

SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT EDITOR

“The Offer” continues to be one of the best shows on TV.

I recently cruised through the seventh episode of the series with Miles Teller about the making of “The Godfather,” and it’s truly awesome just how great the show is. (REVIEW: ‘The Offer’ Is An Outstanding Series About The Making Of ‘The Godfather’)

As I’ve said before, it might be just as entertaining as the actual film saga

Somehow, a show about making a movie is every bit as intense and suspenseful as any thriller that I’ve seen over the past few years.

It’s dark, gritty, violent and bodies absolutely get dropped. Without spoiling too much, at the end of the seventh episode, a very famous mob shooting plays out on screen with Albert Ruddy (Teller) watching in the crowd.

I had high expectations for “The Offer” when I saw the first trailer for the show, which includes a packed cast. However, even my wildest expectations have been blown away.

It’s borderline impossible to stop watching Teller as Ruddy, Dan Fogler as Francis Ford Coppola, Matthew Goode as Robert Evans and Juno Temple as Bettye McCartt.

We all know and love Juno from “Ted Lasso,” but she truly takes things to a different level with “The Offer.”

If you haven’t already started watching, I can’t recommend it enough. It’s one hell of an awesome series.

8. ‘The Offer’

It’s hard to believe we only have three more episodes of The Offer to go! This month, we saw the production move from sunny Los Angeles to the unforgiving streets of New York City as super producer Al Ruddy (Miles Teller) does his best to get The Godfather made—even if that means getting Paramount Pictures in bed with gangster Joe Colombo (Giovanni Ribisi). Though Matthew Goode’s vivid portrayal of Hollywood legend Robert Evans is awe-inspiring to watch, it’s nice to see Grey’s Anatomy alum Justin Chambers disappear into his role of Marlon Brando tackling his most-iconic character, Don Vito Corleone. Also featuring standout performances from Juno Temple, Colin Hanks, Burn Gorman and Anthony Ippolito as Al Pacino, The Offer is an eccentric and often exhilarating tale of the New Hollywood of the 1970s. — Karen Kemmerle

Oh - “awe inspiring”  - I like it.

This is my favourite picture of Matthew Goode today.  Looking so sweet and innocent with his friend, Romola Garai, at the 2010 BAFTA nomination announcements.

Romola and Matthew had to read out the announcements - Matthew thanked BAFTA for not including any Polish directors!  [Hard to pronounce].  Funny man.

BAFTA official. And a bonus close up with a bit of editing.
