I’ve already talked about how much I love Life is Strange and how the latest episode left me a bit… broken I guess would be the word. This is probably the last colored fanart I’ll do until the next episode. I love Max, I love Chloe, I love Kate and I like the rest of the cast, friends and antagonists alike.
Decided to add the basic version too along with the pencils. More than anything because I’m proud of how it turned out, even though I admit that I missed the likeness of the character by drawing her too much in my style and changing her attitude a bit. This is a Max that lost punk Chloe and is still focused on finding Rachel Amber.
Some rough sketches of “Super Max” or “Super Maxine”. Not meant to be a fanfic type of deal, more like this is how I’m dealing with the down time between episodes. I originally planned to have her wear a flannel skirt over some shorts but didn’t work for me. I like that Max wears jeans, it’s part of her personality.
So instead of the skirt I kept her traditional jeans but put Rachel’s shirt over them. She also has one of Chloe’s shirts, her necklace (tied to her right arm) and her jacket.
Since I don’t understand the whole reblog to reply deal, let me just thank everyone that likes and reblogs this post. I truly appreciate it and it encourages me to do more (though if I’m honest, the game alone is doing just that fine, IT’S SOOO GOOOOD)
Hey guys! Sorry for my recent absence, real life and all that!
Anyway, whilst you may know me as an extreme amberpricer, tomorrow I am going to be streaming LIS2 for some buddies and figured i’d link here incase anyone wanted to check it out! It’ll be super casual and friendly! I’m not feeling particularly hopeful about it but there is only one way to find out if i’m wrong!
So I finally played True Colors and a while back I got some anons asking for my opinion. Here it is, spoiler free:
The Game
Overall, I think True Colors is better than LiS2. The story is more consistent, the characters are interesting and multidimensional, and the plot is far more realistic/sensible. Is it better than LiS? It’s a good contender. Personally I would say no, but if someone told me it was their favourite game in the franchise, I would understand. The setting is gorgeous, artistic, relaxing, and you can tell the devs put a lot of love and care into the backgrounds. The music is nice, though there isn’t a huge variety and there’s no track that’s overly memorable, in my opinion. The acting is, for the most part, exceptional. I think the decision to use mo-cap was nothing short of genius, as the game relies heavily on the facial expressions of the characters to really emphasize each scene. Alex’s power of empathy is also brilliantly portrayed and far surpassed my expectations. Like Max’s power, it grows as the story progresses.
Choices
Disappointingly, and in true Square Enix/Deck Nine fashion, your choices don’t really matter. The story is definitely more of a narrative adventure, which is perfectly fine, but if that’s the case I wish these companies would stop advertising their games as “choice-based”. No matter what choices you make throughout the game, the outcome will be the same. At least the most crucial element, anyway. Only a few details change based on your choices, but they’re of very little consequence. Moreover, unless you play as a total asshole and do zero exploring, I’m not sure how you could possibly get the bad ending, which is really just the good ending with less positive relationships. The main dilemma is solved either way.
Price
Is this game worth $80 (or $60 for my American friends)? No. It really isn’t. That is a AAA price tag, and regardless of the attempt, True Colors is not a AAA experience. You’re very limited in what you can do/effect and even with all my exploring and reading I beat the game in 8 hours and 24 minutes. I got the game for $40 and I’d say that’s more than fair, especially when you compare it to other AAA (and even some indie) games. If I’ve learned anything from the LiS Remaster, it’s that Square Enix is getting very greedy and jacking up their prices when it’s not deserved. I definitely recommend True Colors, but I also recommend buying it on sale.
Story
I didn’t have high hopes for this game, but I was pleasantly surprised. Without spoiling anything, I want to say that the plot is a gripping, emotional ride. I never felt bored or lost, and while I found the main character somewhat bland (though likable), the personality that bursts from the other characters made me look forward to every interaction. The twist at the end is, at least to me, painfully predictable, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying the journey. The gameplay is fun and flawlessly encourages exploration, conversation, and investigation. With such high praise, I have to say that True Colors almost nailed it. The final chapter, unfortunately, asked me to suspend my disbelief a bit too much in one instance, while another instance felt way too convenient and tacky. I could also tell the conclusion was spliced together based on my choices, making it seem like the actors were reading from a high school script, which broke my immersion; however, it didn’t ruin the game in its entirety. I’m still glad I played it. 7/10.
If you’re thinking of buying the Life is Strange Remaster…
Don’t.
If I hadn’t gotten this shit for free, I would be RAGING. This is just a fraction of the glitches I encountered. The game crashes constantly (I’d say at least three or four times per chapter), trophies glitch, dialogue and music cut out, it’s either too dark or too bright, the graphics are garbage and all artistry from the original release is gone, the characters periodically freeze or get stuck in walls, their tight faces don’t react to anything anymore, sometimes photo spots just inexplicably dissappear or don’t work, at one point my data was corrupted (thank God I backed up the save), and all of this happened with the latest patch! My friend couldn’t even get it to run on his PC. Bad show. Save your money.

I’ve bought a polaroid about a week ago so I wanted to do something related. I hope I will be able to do some photos using drawings as filters upon film but I’m afraid they won’t work.

EDIT: I saw the trailer of LiS2. Hype!! I’m a lot interested in the new characters and plot!!
I am so impressed and proud of what she’s been able to accomplish – her execution went above and beyond the vision I had for this new title screen, and all of the animation touches just make it all the sweeter.
I’m also very excited to reveal something some of you might have foreseen coming: Mollifiable will be collaborating with me on the production of the visual novel, and will be creating sprites for the story. We haven’t quite hammered out the details just yet, though the plan is that she’ll be handling the art from the timeskip onward (Chapter 8). I think many of you who are used to her more children’s book style will be taken aback at her skill and flexibility to adapt to different art styles and still deliver such a detailed experience through her art.
It means so much to me to be able to work on a project so personal with someone who I’ve come to admire so much – without All Wounds, we never would have met, but I am so in love with her and so excited to see what we come up with together.
