two eastern screech owls (Megascopsasio) I’ve met while stalking around in search of bugs at night in Florida.
something I like about screech owls is how varied their diet is- most people associate owls with eating birds and rodents, but screech owls eat insects and other invertebrates as roughly half of their diet and even regularly eat aquatic prey like fish and crayfish (they share this trait with barred owls, which sometimes eat so many crayfish that their feathers start to turn pink).
