all of kiryus dead friends and family standing around in heaven wondering what theyre gonna do about nishiki screamcrying in the next room over because they all just saw kiryu make daigo dojima, the least qualified dude ever, chairman and it has fully undone him. be he rly killed all those mfs for NOTHING. theyll make anyone chairman these days
nishiki’s ghost remembering how he had to pretend daigo’s 12-year-old fashion choices were cool so daigo wouldn’t feel bad
since weve been on the subject of facial animations and voice acting, let me just say this: im still GUTTED that the short scene in the Hole in y0 was not a proper cutscene. because the voice acting there - that’s the most broken and vulnerable we’ve ever heard majima, when hes asking what happened to his bro. how its high-pitched and almost strangled sounding and just ugh. that was virtuoso work from hidenari ugaki, its one of the top 3 voice acting moments in the series that i can think of off the top of my head. and it deserved the facial animations to match. why they didnt give that scene proper animation I CANNOT fathom.
fair, though they did have quite graphic onscreen torture scene in y1/kiwami and something comparable in y5.
so much to say about this whole scene—the fact that its raining just like it was when dojima attacked yumi, framing the scene as a ‘redo’ of that night; all the ‘rebirth’ symbolism; the DIALOGUE and the VOICE ACTING. but just. this is arguably nishikis lowest moment. two seconds ago he was about to kill himself, then this jerk comes in and starts randomly spouting off about how much better kiryu is. and even then. even here, the moment where nishiki decides to essentially become a new person, a second after he’s baptized himself in blood, he STILL doesn’t think ill of kiryu or of what kiryu did. he thinks ill of HIMSELF. even when the whole WORLD is pushing nishiki to hate kiryu, nishiki still thinks HE wronged KIRYU.
nishiki is very far from perfect and i love him to bits.
ok we dont talk about this enough. this moment? right here? probably the bravest thing nishikis ever done. he has a RAGING amour-propre, he’s SO sensitive to how people perceive him, so attuned to slights, so desperate to be confident and in control, and here he forces all of that pride and insecurity down and willingly embraces the humiliation he thinks is necessary to save his sister.
the strength this must have taken is incalculable. however he may have gone wrong, nishiki was a champ through and through.
ohhhhhh wait ok so the doctor who ran out on yuko owed money (indirectly) TO NISHIKI. which means that if they’d only known who one another were, nishiki could have FORGIVEN THE DOCTOR’S 30 MIL DEBT instead of PAYING him 30 mil. so nishiki had the means to acquire an illegal organ for yuko right from the beginning but he didn’t do it because he didnt know ! neat!
ok so what are we actually supposed to get out of this exchange?? i have so many questions. first off, DID kazama “clue [Nishiki] in”? Did nishiki know at all? His expression kinda looks to me like Kazama didnt tell him anything and he didn’t know, but thats hes deducing in the moment what Matsushige means.
But what DOES matsushige mean? what “kind of earner” is he?
best-case-scenario/weak interpretation: matsushige uses aggressive business tactics, such as impinging on other yakuza’s territory
worse-case-scenario/strong interpretation: kazama surrounded nishiki with hitmen ??????
the moment where you have to grab the tea bag out of the tea is the worst.. even awfuler when you cant grab it the first time and have to go in again, fingers already smarting and knowing with the certainty of physical sensation that this time it can only hurt more
anyway nishiki is SUCH a good guy and hes so full of love and enthusiasm and this scene proves it.. like we know he’s touchy and he could have reacted like “so I’m only getting my own Family so KIRYU has somewhere to go??” but instead hes. I’ll work hard, for Kiryu’s sake too. ow!
