A visit to the barber in Italy is a part of a deeply rooted ritual. Barbering was first introduced in Italy in the second century BC and a visit for a shave, news, and gossip soon became a treasured part of the culture along with the espresso. Modern barbiere have helped to preserve the old style and elegance of the barbershop experience, tailoring their services to each customer the way you tailor a fine suit.Today the male grooming sector is gaining significant traction worldwide and every major city in the world may have a traditional barbiere, I prefer the old school tradition. During my recent visit to Porto, I had the pleasure of a short trim at “Barbearia Tinoco”, established in 1929. Possibly merchants from the city’s wine houses might have been groomed there in the afternoon or on an early Saturday morning. The nostalgia is irresistable whether in Porto, Rome, London, Mexico, Hong Kong or Istanbul. Yet a good haircut at the right time is thought to bring good luck, too.
