Another blind item has been posted today, on the same gossip site as last week. This one delves into greater detail, and there seems to be no mistake that this is about Nez…

Many people have asked for information from firsthand sources about the situation with Michael Nesmith. Ed is a longtime friend of Nez’s, as well as a photographer who has taken pictures of Nez live in concert (these are two of Ed’s photos, one with Micky backstage at a First National Band Redux show in 2018, and one with Nez’s daughter Jessica at the Grammy Museum in 2019).

Ed is also one of the witnesses to what has been happening. This is what friends and employees of Nez’s are facing, and why no one has spoken out about the abuse.

Thank you to Ed for coming forward and sharing this.

Seeing these pictures side by side is utterly shocking. The fact that people still don’t want to admit something is wrong is beyond senseless. We need to keep talking about what is happening with Nez, because being silent has accomplished nothing.

Hello, followers of the NP Tumblr. Apologies for the long delay between posts, but it’s been very difficult and painful to be a Monkees fan recently, and the video above is a large part of the reason why.

This video was shared to the Videoranch Instagram yesterday. This is not the Nez so many of us to know, and to see him in this state—weak, gaunt, possibly malnourished—is beyond horrifying. Those who have followed the #sad state of affairs tag have seen the trajectory of what has happened to Nez over the past few years, but things have sharply grown worse over the past few months in particular, to which this video (as well as yesterday’s livestream) is a living testament.

If you are a Michael Nesmith fan and shocked and appalled by this video–as we at NP are–do something. Decry what is happening in this video by sharing it and speaking out against it. Michael Nesmith—the Monkee, the innovator, the country music pioneer, the man and friend many of us know as just Nez—is in serious trouble, and the time for being quiet is long over.

were-the-monkiis:

I am hurt, scared, and worried for him. Yesterday I had made this comment on his post from Tuesday, but I soon deleted it because I was afraid I would be attacked or blocked or even banned from concerts. I don’t know what the truth is anymore and the sensitive little doormat I am wants to comment on his latest post that I am sorry. But what is there to be sorry about?? His safety and well being? I know it is none of my business as a fan. But this is widely known information now that something is up with Michael’s Facebook and it’s reaching a breaking point now. Someone please give me some clarity, or something I can do… I feel incredibly hopeless.

I am so sorry for intruding on Michael’s personal life like this. But I think it’s common knowledge here that we are concerned for him. I can’t just stand by while he could be getting worse and having things said for him that he himself isn’t writing or doesn’t believe. I’ve read conflicting evidence too, like someone saying they’re friends with Michael and called him about the post and he said he wrote it. But also, Bill Chadwick, from the Monkee days, left a worrying comment saying something like “please call me” with a desperate tone.

I don’t know what’s real about this situation anymore but I want to help Michael somehow and I feel like I can’t.

This is where many people are. This is the comment from BIll Chadwick, by the way, for those who haven’t seen it:

That comment is extremely telling. Bill has a long history with Nez going back to Ledbetter’s and the Troubadour in Los Angeles, and worked as Micky’s stand-in in the TV show and as a songwriter for the Monkees. If he has not been able to reach Nez, then that speaks to a larger, more insidious problem than any of us know about, and it shouldworry people.

You are not intruding, and you are not out of line. He (or whoever is making these posts) has brought his personal life into the public forum, and people have taken notice and are showing concern. Deleting comments from his Facebook and blocking people is not going to stop that, because Nez is someone a lot of people care about, and do not want to see hurt in this way.

Fond memories from a threeway Skype video chat with @lynseymoon, Nez, and me in 2011, where he played “Harmony Constant” for us. This is who Michael Nesmith is.
