That’s not about Ukrainian mlb dub, but about “ladybug” as address in Ukrainian

The Ukrainian language has two synonymous words that denote the word “ladybug”: сонечко (sonechko) і зозулька (zozulka).

And very often, these words are used as a very tender and kind address to the girl. My mum very often calls me a zozulka, in English, it will sound something like “my little ladybug”

But despite this meaning, both words are also homonyms: сонечко (sonechko) also means “sunny”,зозулька (zozulka) - cuckoo(bird)

In addition to the gentle address, there is also a mischievous one of those who are very disobedient. That is «жук» (zhuk), which means“bug”. In English it will sound something like “Hey you, little bug!”

P. S. My mother often called me that (as well as “my little ladybug”) because I was a very rebellious and naughty kid xDDD

here is part 1andpart 2

Speaking of Ukrainian mlb dubbing pt. 2

1. In Ukrainian, we call ladybug (insect) as«сонечко» (sonechko) and in English it literally means“sunny”

In Ukrainian mlb dubbing, Ladybug sometimes is called in that way, but not that much. Actually I started making parallels after Glaciator 2 and this Marinette’s confession with “three suns in my heart” GOD xD

2. In Gigantitan episode (and Glaciator 2 as well) Adrien is called not buttercup, but narcissus. That’s cute and funny at the same time xD

3. About Frightningale. Oh, that’s the good one for sure. Firstly, I want to emphasize that nightingale(соловей, “solovei” in Ukrainian) as bird is a great symbol in Ukrainian culture, its singing are often mentioned in Ukrainian folk songs (especially in love songs, of course). Accordingly, Ukrainians have surnames derived from this word “nightingale” (solovei)-Solovei, Solovii etc. So, translators decided to make a Ukrainian adaptation of Clara’s surname«Nightingale»as“Solovii”. And to make a Ukrainian name for akumatized villain, they just took the ending “Vii”of this surname. But at the same time, Vii is one of the most frightful characters of Ukrainian mythology (demonology), which is able to kill at a glance. Sounds terrific, isn’t it? The most exciting thing is that there is a famous singer Khrystyna Solovii in Ukraine, who also has this surname. Such a hint, because Clara is a singer too :3

P. S. I would like to thank everyone who liked the first part, I am very pleased that people are interested in other languages, translations and dubbing, which is why I decided to share the insiders of Ukrainian one. Hope that was interesting :333

here is part 1andpart 3

Speaking of mlb dubbing, I would like to mention how LadyNoir calls each other in the Ukrainian one, cuz that’s beautiful :3

1. Chat Noir calls Ladybug “лялечка” (lialechka) - that’s Ukrainian analogue of“bugaboo” and it is used to call a girl, who you like, in playful and flirty way. Actually it has two meanings: 1) “lialechka” literally means “doll” but in diminutive form; 2) but at the same time it is used to denote a pupa, this small embryo of an insect that is about to mature. And that really make sense!

2. Ladybug calls Chat Noir «мурчик» (murchyk), that’s literally means “kitty, which purring sweetly”, but English unfortunately can’t convey all sense. In general, that’s the most gentle and affectionate way in Ukrainian to call your kitty. And that’s so cute, I can’t

And just an interesting fact: in the Ukrainian dubbing, Marinette and Tikki are voiced by actresses who are sisters in real life. That’s kinda cute

P. S. here is part 2andpart 3
