Today we dedicate our post to the world-renowned calligraphic artist, author, and teacher, Sheila Waters, whose seventy-year career included world-class commissions for royalty, museums, libraries, corporations, maps for publishers, and collectors.

We at Speedball consider ourselves beyond fortunate to have had the chance to learn from Sheila in a myriad of ways, and are overwhelmingly grateful to her for her insight and support through the years, especially in her numerous contributions to several editions of The Speedball Textbook and the undeniable way she influenced and inspired this great calligraphic community in which we play a part. Let us remember her great work forever.

-Our Hidden Pain-

-We are all beautiful and theres nothing that can say otherwise or change that. Alot of us though have pain at the center of our core. A bloody hand print thats been left on our souls. We over lap this pain with so many beauty layers, but sometimes that hidden pain is a clear as day. When this happens and pain pushes through all of our beauty to our surface what possibly can we to do? What can we do to make sure this pain doesnt over lap our beauty and destroy it? My answer is LOVE.

Only 23 years old when Aurora Police Department profiled him and put a chokehold on him that started a domino of issued that later resulted in his death. But his death was determined undetermined by the coroner. He did nothing wrong. He panicked after being surrounded by police manhandling him but instead of deescalating the situation these police caused themselves they turned up the heat and now a young man is gone….FOR NO REASON. FUCKED UP isnt even the word for this whole matter. This happened in the city i live in, i dont have enough fingers and toes to count on for how many times APD profiled me. To think about@how many times ive made it out alive with police confrontations is sickening. What happened to Elijah is fucking devastating.
