IC Hook:
You find an ensorcelled parchment in your hands, and you do not remember picking it up. It reads:
“Come one, come all, to the Pridecraft Ball! In Twilight Grove, before nightfall, when seven bells echo, we will drink of wine, red, white, and Prosecco.
There is a painting on the parchment here, between words.
"Join us to celebrate the you that you are, no matter who you love. Alliance and Horde will meet peace by dove. Leave your weapons by the door, and we will meet you on the ballroom floor!!”
go… be free… you’re safe now…
Just so you all know the RP location maps for Warcrafts capitals are still under way. But I recently (finally) got a new job and the training has been intensive! So, obviously that comes first on my energy-spending priority list. I’m still working on the maps as I can and I’ll upload Gilneas when I get a chance to BREATHE. <3
Thanks again for the support everyone~ These maps have really given me confidence and the calming, de-stressing project I’ve needed for a while.
So I’m seeing a how to get RP post floating around and I’ve been sitting on this idea for a while. I’ve heard a lot of people say they don’t know how to get walk up and, honestly, it’s really nerve wracking. So here’s a guide written by a nervous dork on how to make things easier and less daunting. And remember…
Take the initiative
Everyone says this because it’s true. If you’re not taking the initiative you’re not getting RP more than once in a blue moon.
But in the event you don’t feel like it, have a good solid search info
I often see a number of search info’s that only say “Walkup welcome!” or “RPer” or some variation. If you’re standing in the bar with your RP tag on, I figure that’s what you’re there for. Knowing a little about the character be it occupation, disposition, or appearance helps me gauge if and how I want to walk up.
Ask them if they’re down
Yeah they might say they’re down for walk up… But they might also be tabbed out. I’m guilty of this. Plus there’s nothing more disheartening than walking up to someone and getting ignored. I can’t think of many instances where I’ve been ignored or turned down when I send a /tell. Plus it gives people time to prepare! Not totally necessary, but helpful.
Have a hook
The truth is there’s a lot of power in a good hook. How you approach someone IC can make or break a conversation. Here’s a few I can think of off the top of my head:
- “Spare a girl a light?” Let me tell you, I use this one all the time. In fact, more often times than not Lafey has a light but she wants to strike up a conversation. “But Ette!” You say, “My character isn’t a smoker!” Well don’t fret, because you can take this hook and twist it around. Maybe your character needs a mint. Does your character wear glasses? Well maybe they left their handkerchief at home and need one to clean them off. Hell, have them ask for the time. It’s just got to be small and innocuous.
- “Oh that outfit is to die for!” Let’s be real, how many times have you been walking down the street and thought “woah, that shirt/dress/outfit looks nice!” Probably a lot. There’s a good chance you feel the same way about glams or appearances in game. Have your character notice! People like compliments and you can follow it up with “where did you get it?” Bam, you’re in a conversation. Works for hair and tattoos, too!
- “What are you in for?” Probably works the best in bar RP. Maybe they just want to drink, maybe they’re looking for a conversation, maybe they want to people watch, or perhaps it’s a waystation for their merc work. Won’t know until you ask!
- “Is this seat taken?” If someone is sitting next to an empty seat in game there’s a good chance they want walkup. You’ve got to follow this one up with something, though. Ask them how they are. Ask them if they want a drink. Tell them your character’s name.
- “X, is that you?” A risky move but rife with comedic value if someone can riff off it right. Have your character mistake their character for someone else. It doesn’t need to be another PC and could just as easily be some offscreen character. Sometimes things are embarrassing! Embrace it! Have your character recover by starting up a conversation with this new and vaguely X-like stranger.
Yes, and?
A common improv tactic, make sure the other person has something to work off of. Ask questions! Make comments that can be easily commented on! Things like “Yes” or “No” or “Fair enough” should ideally be followed up by other statements that can keep a conversation going. And note, if the other person is giving you nothing it’s totally okay to walk away. The onus shouldn’t be entirely on you to make the RP fun.
Attention friends and loved ones of the Coldwall Collective!
For five and a half years, Coldwall has been proud to serve WrA in our capacity through public events and roleplay encounters. In that time, we have witnessed fantastic things, been involved in brilliant events, and had the pleasure of interacting with some people and writers we will always remember.
However, with the launch of Shadowlands we have noticed that the server is not what it once was from our perspective. While there are still some fantastic guilds/people here, the life in the server has dimmed. This is not directed as a means to insult WrA, but more to acknowledge that it can not provide what we, as a guild, seek in our environment.
After much discussion across the officership and members, the decision has been made for the guild to move to Moon Guard.
We understand this decision is a fairly big one, and it is one we did not make lightly. It comes with all associated concerns and a healthy dose of nervous energy to boot. However, we feel that MG, especially with a large influx of former WrA members, is a server that can provide the environment for our members and subsequently our guild to expand, enrich, and thrive.
To everone on WrA. This isn’t goodbye. With how easy it is to cross servers, you will still be able to attend most of our public events and say hello. We are still going to be the Collective you know, so you can always feel free to poke us, say hello, or seek out ways to RP.
To everyone on MG. We know it’s your stomping grounds. We are not about to go in there and throw our weight around. We are ready and eager to provide the events, quality, and characters that people have come to expect from us. We are looking forward to what we can bring to MG, and what MG can offer us as well!
Thank you, everyone, for five and a half years of amazing RP. Heres to many years more in a new community.
We love you. And we’ll see you around.
