Getting some long rides in as I get ready for the Transandes. When you have scenery like this it really takes the pain out of 5 hour rides.

   Mountain Biking in the Snow?

Yes you can do it, but you have to stay on the packed areas. As soon as you veer off into the deeper snow you lose it. The good news is that if you do fall at least you hit a nice soft bed of fluffy snow. Ice is a different story. I saw a big patch of ice and thought maybe if I just coast over it keeping my wheels straight I could glide to the safe zone, but it didn’t work out that way. As soon as I hit the ice the bike crashed to the ground without the fluffy snow to break the fall. The good news there is at least you can see the ice before you get to it. I saw the ice coming and actually considered walking the bike past the patch of ice. Unfortunately I made the wrong choice. I wasn’t hurt, but it was not a pleasant experience, and I won’t try that one again!

All of these pictures were taken with my iphone so the quality isn’t nearly as good as the pictures taken with my Nikon, but they’re plenty good enough to get the point across.

The Norbrook Farm Brewery and Mountain Bike Trails

The Norbrook Farm Brewery and Mountain Bike Trails is an excellent place to go to have some fun! I guess the MTB trail is about to close for the season 11/18. As I entered the Norbrook Farm eatery I was beckoned by a man who appeared to be the proprietor. He told me that the MTB trails are closed because the recent rains had made some of the trails very muddy. He must have noticed that I was extremely disappointed because then he said “you can go ahead and give it a shot. I’m not gonna throw you out” So I was able to check out many of the trails in the 2 hours I was there.

All of these trails are rated for difficulty and popularity. When they say the trail is difficult it means that the trail is difficult and there’s no two ways about it! So if you are a beginner or an intermediate like myself then those trails are no fun at all! But that’s the beauty part of it there’s something for everyone at Norbrook Farm Brewery and Mountain Bike Trails. I didn’t ride them all but my favorites were the Steve Quinn Memorial trail (easy) and the Lost Camp trail (easy also).

I didn’t try the Creek Drop jump but maybe next year.

The Norbrook Farm Brewery also has a Disc Golf Course which looks like fun.

After I logged in about 5 or 6 miles I decided to call it quits and treat myself to a hotdog and a Beckley Furnace Ale Brown Ale . That really hit the spot!

Trails were running fast yesterday, a nice change from the sloppy conditions of late.  Got me thinking about summer riding.  Here’s one from last summer of Chris Tretwold on one of the many killer trails down in the Leavenworth zone.

Fall color is going off right now in the PNW!  Love this time of year.

This photo was taken up at the Stevens Pass Bike Park during the Leavenworth Framed Photographer Invitational held last week over in Leavenworth, WA.  I was honored to be one of five photographers invited to participate, and had an absolute blast.  We had three days to capture our take on Leavenworth Mountain Culture, after which I got to edit all my shots down into a slideshow that got screened along with those from the other photographers for a big crowd on the following Saturday night.  So much fun!  I ended up coming away with one of the three awards, and felt really fortunate to have done so- all the shows were top-notch.  It was a lot of fun to see how differently each of the photogs experienced the same three days.  Way cool event, and I was glad to have taken part!
