So i would like to ask why when someone has a gay ship on a shonen anime a lot of people complain saying “this is not a yaoi”?

I mean what does that even mean? People really think that a story is a shonen as long as there are straight couple but when there are gays it’s not shonen anymore? So i can have a really good plot and different genres that doesn’t have anything to do with the love story and still you will call it BL just because of genders? But when the couple is straight is not a love story but a shonen?
