#my wips in want of a wife
Chapter 7 of In Want of a Wife is complete. Turned out longer than expected. Might have to split it into two during edits. Things will be picking up in the next few chapters so that’ll be fun to write :)
Chapter 8 complete. The calm before the storm.
Chapter 9 is finally complete. And I did not leave Cecily and Laurence in a great place
Chapter 10 is complete and I have passed 40,000 words.
Chapter 11 is finished
Chapter 12 is complete. Not too much on the romance side in this chapter. More character development focused.
Chapter 13 is complete. Cecily and Laurence are growing closer.
Chapter 14 is finished. Their not-a-date was fun to write.

Headcanons for the next gen in my historical romance wip
I was talking with @missbrunettebarbie about my headcanons for the children of Cecily & Laurence from my wip In Want of a Wife, so here’s my more fleshed out ideas.
Seehere for the family tree, which is now not entirely in line with all of my headcanons
Beatrice:
- Gets married right as WWI breaks out. Her fiance, John Brassey, son and heir to an earldom, is a soldier who gets deployed to the front.
- They have a daughter, Arabella, but John dies at the Battle of the Somme in 1916.
- After the war she gets involved in veteran charities, becomes a pacifist, and marries a Labor politician.
Iris:
- Serves as a nurse during the war.
- Marries Nellie & Edward’s eldest son, Archibald, who also fought in the war. They name their son after Nellie’s father.
- Together with Archibald and Beatrice, they establish a hospital for wounded soldiers.
Cordelia:
- After the war she marries a neighbour, David Hewitt, who was a soldier. He was injured by a grenade and left with scarring and an injured leg. They have 6 kids.
- Inherits the un-entailed smaller estate from Laurence.
- Lives the longest of the five children, making it to over 100.
Calla:
- Embraces the flapper lifestyle and moves to America, where she becomes an actress.
- Has a series of love affairs with other artistic types. Probably gets involved with a gangster at one point.
- Gets married when she’s in her 30s to a younger man whose an aspiring actor. That marriage ends in divorce and she gets married and divorced a few more times before she figures out marriage isn’t for her.
August:
- Total mama’s boy.
- Gets married four times and ends up with 7 children (2 of whom are the children of his third wife, whom he adopted). First two marriages end in divorce, third is happy but she dies tragically young, and fourth lasts until his death.
- Part of the Prince of Wales’ circle in the 1920s and 30s.

So here’s the three heroines of my historical romance wips, Cecily, Nellie and Winifred. They’re all modern versions of the characters since there wasn’t really any hairstyle/fashion options close to the era.
