WIP Introduction: To Marry a Duke

Plot summary:

A marriage of convenience.

He has the title. She has the money. A perfectly suitable arrangement in every way. Of course, his title comes with a flailing estate and a meddling sister, and her money comes with a rebellious daughter in tow. What once seemed a practical, uncomplicated match soon proves anything but.

Add in a few kisses in the parlour, confessions in the garden, and trysts in the library, and you get the recipe for true love.

To Marry a Duke

(For context, the she being discussed here is Nellie)

“Does she like the country?” Cynthia asked.

“She’s never lived in the country, so I couldn’t say if she likes it or not.”

“Does she like the outdoors? Riding, hunting, fishing?”

“No. She’s more the intellectual sort.”

Cynthia collapsed into the chair as if such a pronouncement was a catastrophe. “You have nothing in common, then? You will marry this girl and be unhappy.”

“Girl?” Edward asked incredulously. “She’s only a few years younger than you. And we have more than nothing in common.”

“What?” Cynthia demanded.

“Similar temperament, character and values.”

“Hmph,” she sniffed, unsatisfied with his answer. “Then how will we live with her? She doesn’t suit our family at all.”

“You’ve never met her. You cannot say if she does or does not suit the family.” Edward folded up the newspaper and placed it on the table. “And she suits me. My decision is final. You should accept it.”

I was tagged by @laufire-writes to make avatars of my ocs with this picrew.

So here’s the three heroines of my historical romance wips, Cecily, Nellie and Winifred. They’re all modern versions of the characters since there wasn’t really any hairstyle/fashion options close to the era.
