at the point where krahnenstraße merges into stammheimer ufer, there is a view axis worth seeing of modern architecture over haus hopmann to the mülheimer brücke and the colonia-haus.

I love to pause or walk in the late evening at this area by the Aachen pond. It is an island of peace in this very popular part of Cologne’s inner green belt. And the architecture looks so different from the daytime, when the tiles glisten in the sunlight.

the center of chorweiler is formed by the city-center chorweiler with the surrounding high-rise residential buildings, which look like a mountain range that slowly rises. I was unfortunately in none but the distant view over the rhineland must be terrific. on the ground, the complex is very winding and full of corners and edges, which has its own charm.

both post-war modern churches form a quasi church campus and harmonious unity although they were planned by different architects. this is due on the one hand to the similar style and on the other hand to the fact that the clinker brick used has the same colour. since 2009, the parish hall of the catholic church has also housed a jewish community centre.

In böhm’s housing development, I find this mixture of small and large blocks very successful, as well as the way he plays with the colours. because the buildings are now surrounded by a large stock of trees and meadows, you no longer think that you are in a large housing estate. It even seems a little enchanted.
