Jam of the Week!

‘Been jamming Hiatus Kaiyote’s LP heavy this week. The flavours of this Aussie (yet again!) nu-soul/R&B quartet are so damn fresh! Despite the evident skillset, it never feels forced or overly calculated. Instead we get vibes. All the vibes. Turn it up and close your eyes. Mavin’s virtuoso keyboard licks leap around on the bed hands held tight with Nai Palm’s tasteful guitar work. If you don’t listen too hard, it’s almost easy to ignore all the awesome that Moss & Bender provide as the rhythm section. Nai Palm’s vocal chops, apparently influenced by the likes of Mr. Wonder, Ms. Badu et al ice the cake… and boy, does it taste good!

part ii - a 2021 soundtrack

a new beginning. a transition. reborn, rebuilding, returning, a fully-fledged phoenix. resolution: self-actualisation; absolute self-love.
