For those who are not fed up with prince Poniatowski yet, here are two versions of the famous statue by Thorvaldsen in the sculptor’s museum in Copenhagen, as well as the sculptural sketch for the monument. I believe that the sketch shows Thorvaldsen’s mastery even better than the finished sculptures.

Price Poniatowski jumping into the Elster 200 years ago. Unknown painter after H. Vernet, in the newly opened new branch of the Krakow National Museum (the Europeum, with modern European art).

By the way, according to legends, he was supposed to say (in what language? I know the saying in Polish and I give here my approximate translation) just before jumping into the river that “God entrusted me with the honour of the Poles and to God alone will I return it”, and since we generally know that it was Napoleon who made him swear that he would rather die than give field, it casts interesting light on the Prince’s idea of god ;)

The city where I live unfortunately seems untouched by the Napoleonic period (being at the same time one of the most beautiful and interesting places in Poland). It is nice, therefore, that our Historical Museum will exhibit a piece of particular value: the saddle of prince Józef Poniatowski (the only Polish marshal of France), the very one that he used during the battle of Leipzig (the exhibit will be on loan from the Leipzig museum).

(Photo taken from here; I disagree with some things written there, especially that it was a wrong political choice to side with Napoleon in 1813: I believe it was a good - even if doomed - choice, a choice for the modern world and against the conservatism and backwardness of the coalition countries.)

October’s finally here so I’m starting this project now. Here’s a sketch of a modern outfit inspired by Napoleon’s clothes!

Instead of the usual inktober drawings that I usually do, I will try and make this challenge throughout this month. Here’s to hoping I can make 31 different ikemen inspired outfits for our MC here!
