English version of our press release, 16/3/2015On Friday night, the Arbeitskreis Nahost Leipzig (“Middle-East Workgroup Leipzig”) once again showed the true face behind the carefully picked words of its “criticism of Israel”. During an event at the Geisteswissenschaftliches Zentrum (GWZ) (“Center for the study of humanities”) at the University of Leipzig organised by the group, activists contesting statements made during a talk by speaker Susann Witt-Stahl were expelled from the room and assaulted by AK Nahost supporters. Some of those attacked in return called the police and pressed charges.

Konsumzentrale, Industriestraße 85-95, Leipzig. Architect Fritz Höger, 1929-1932. Built for the Konsum co-op, the building combines typical elements of Höger’s expressionist architecture (the convex windows, the gold details, etc) with new objectivity’s tendency for rather simple and reduced forms.

so, i finally got my dream job! i got an email the week before last and today i got one with more information and i’m so happy! i’m going to be working as a student research assistant with my favourite linguistics prof and i couldn’t be happier
every sunday, i try to go on a walk with a friend / we met in the city, walked for a bit and found a super nice street with two bookshops and a closed café. and the continued to grab a coffee and a snack and walk some more along the elster canal into my favourite park. it was a beautiful day, topped with a bookshop visit and a game evening. thankful for what is now

A girl I used to know is in Leipzig, Germany this week for work. I’m like, “are you stopping at the Bach museum!?!” It probably didn’t occur to her, but it got me thinking of the importance of J.S. Bach to me. If you play some piano as a kid, you inevitably bump into his ‘Inventions’. Then there was the ‘Chorales’ when I was learning to read. Then revisiting them when first studying music theory in high school — 4-part harmony. Then my college roommate was studying the ‘Cello suites’ on electric bass to practice reading something besides boring method books. Then came music history & the ‘Well-tempered klavier”, which changed the world by helping make equal temperament the standard. Then there was ‘counterpoint in the style of J.S. Bach’ as a degree requirement. So yeah, to me it would be unbelievable to visit Bach’s house & the church where he performed in Leipzig. Dunno that I’ll ever make it there, so please go so I can live vicariously?
