“Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.” - John Muir

On July 27, 2017, we held the first in a series of two annual programs known as the Clement Alexander Price Lectures: The Newark Rebellion of 1967: A Historic Moment Considered. A group of panelists reflected a range of experiences and interrogated the root of six days of rioting which took place in Newark, N.J. between July 12 and 17, 1967.

Newark: Re-built and Re-imagined

Our second panel consisted of Newark residents from all walks of life including the academic, creative and corporate sectors who participated in the rebuilding of their communities and institutions post 1967. Panelists discussed why they remained in their neighborhoods or remained as corporate pillars as part of the city’s re-emergence.
